Give and Take: Letter to the sports editor

Officiating shameful in title game The NCAA basketball final is history, but should not remain history as is.  The disgraceful refereeing must be investigated!

Give and Take: Letters to the sports editor

Ads ruin basketball March Madness has been overtaken by way too many advertisements. The victim is on-the-spot analysis of penalties and determinate plays, and any momentum teams may be creating due to the long and frequent breaks.  Time to do what the Masters officials have done in golf coverage, and limit the advertisements!

Give and Take: Letters to the editor

GU coverage shows ‘editorial sexism’ It’s been said, “A picture is worth a thousand words,” and this morning’s front page (Monday, March 23) of the sports section reflects poorly on the paper.

Give and Take: Letters to the sports editor

Zags unprepared? What follows may seem sacrilegious in a town that “worships” Zags basketball and the team’s coaching staff.  These may be comments that people think but fear saying.

Give and Take: Letter

Verlin’s tirade proves it’s time for a change The childish behavior of University of Idaho men’s basketball coach Don Verlin displayed at the Northern Arizona game on Feb. 21 was a fiery slap-in-the-face to anyone connected to the university in any capacity.

Give and Take: Sunday letter

Adams to Ducks ‘a bit unseemly’ I don’t blame coach (Beau) Baldwin for being upset with losing Vernon Adams to Oregon. Adams was a record-setting starting QB at EWU groomed by the coaching staff there.

Give and Take: Letters to the sports editor

Adams earned chance to play for Oregon I have always thought it’s unfair that a student athlete from an FCS school (like Eastern) that transfers to an FBS school (like Oregon) should have to sit out one year, but an FBS athlete transfering to an FCS school can play immediately.

Give and take: Sunday letters

Story had impact Thank-you for choosing the analysis piece on football by Bill Plaschke (“Football: Are risks worth rewards?” Jan. 27). I hope it has a good and lasting effect on readers here.

Give and Take: Sunday letters

Zags brighten day I do volunteer work usually once per week at the Spokane Veterans Hospital. I visit with Hospice and Community Living Center residents.

Give and Take: Sunday letters

Noles just fine in Florida It’s further from Spokane to Tallahassee than I thought. It appears Mr. McInerney (Letters, Jan. 11) never heard the Florida State football team referred to as the “Noles.”

Give and take: Sunday letters

Grippi disrespects SEC, Alabama The next best thing for the NCAA would be a requirement that universities have at least 50 percent of their players from that state. The University of Oregon has 49 California players and only 22 from Oregon (18 percent). EWU and Montana have local area talent.

Letters to the sports editor

Why, oh why, is Leach still the coach? Am I the only one who fails to see why Mike Leach is still the football coach at WSU?  Other than the fact that WSU would have to pay him a boatload of money if they fire him, why is he still there?

Give and Take: Letters

Where are the pictures of women? On Sunday (Nov. 16) you published a well-written and persuasive letter regarding the lack of photographs in the Nov. 9 sports section of female athletes. The Nov. 16 sports section has zero pictures of female athletes. How droll!

Give and Take: Letters

Women deserve more coverage Last Sunday, I was very excited to find that there were multiple articles on the Washington State High School Cross Country Championship. However, I was disappointed to find that most of the articles were about the male runners, and no pictures whatsoever were of the many female runners.

Give & Take: Letters to the editor

WIAA policy hurts cross country Regarding Sunday’s (Nov. 2) cross country article on the regional meet in Richland.  Always nice to have coverage of the sport and for those teams and individuals reaping the benefits of their hard work.

Give and Take: Letters

Time to rethink Leach experiment It is time for WSU president Elson Floyd and athletic director Bill Moos to take a serious look at where the Cougar football program is going. They felt an urgent need to fire Paul Wulff and bring in Mike Leach, who they felt had “rockstar” quality. With tremendous financial support, Leach walked into a good situation (the program was not in shambles) and has failed to move it forward. Yes, they did go to a second-rate bowl last year, but did so with mainly Wulff”s recruits.

Don’t let Hawks get you down Each week, with eager anticipation, I await the Seahawks games.  Sometimes the team excels, and I’m enthused.  Sometimes their play is uneven, penalty-laden and less than inspired.

Give and Take: Letters

Apology from Chiefs On behalf of the Spokane Chiefs, I want to apologize for the actions of some of our Spokane Chiefs hockey players prior to our game on Friday, October 10th.

Give and Take: Sunday letters

Bench Winston As the sorry saga of the “student athlete,” Jameis Winston, continues at Florida State, I think it is way past time for someone in authority at that university to act.
