David Stern remembers the days when an NBA staff that numbered about two dozen was just trying to keep some teams in existence long enough to get them on national TV. Now the former commissioner looks at a league that has games televised around the world, whose players average more than $5 million a year in salary as the highest-paid team athletes in sports. “All you can do is focus on small chunks of it, but it’s great fun to contemplate how the NBA family has pulled together to be at a place where our players are now at the top of the celebrity period. Pretty, pretty amazing and great,” Stern said. He will be enshrined Friday in the Hall of Fame, along with former players Alonzo Mourning and Mitch Richmond, along with NCAA coaches Nolan Richardson and Gary Williams. – Associated Press
Carried by balloons and construction paper parachutes, cushioned by bubble wrap and supported by Popsicle sticks and straws, raw eggs sailed through the air at Franklin Elementary School’s egg drop on Tuesday. The Seattle Seahawks officially signed wide receiver and 2014 second-round pick Paul Richardson on Wednesday. Like all non-first-round picks, Richardson signed a four-year contract. The Seahawks selected the speedy but slim Richardson 45th overall out of Colorado with their first pick of this year’s draft. Richardson participated in rookie minicamp last weekend, where he had two touchdowns the first day. He had to sit out the other two days because of a shoulder injury. Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll said Richardson would be fine and was sitting out as a precaution. Tacoma News Tribune
After twice trading down, the Seattle Seahawks picked Colorado wide receiver Paul Richardson with the No. 45 overall pick in the second round of the NFL draft on Friday. Seattle was originally scheduled to pick at No. 40 before making a second draft trade, this time with Detroit. By moving back five spots, the Seahawks were still able to get a speedy receiver to add to their roster and help make up for the loss of Golden Tate in free agency.

Alonzo Mourning went to Georgetown to play basketball, not discover the world. The 6-foot-10 center who won an NBA title with the Miami Heat was voted to the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame on Monday, adding that honor to becoming a board member at his alma mater. “I didn’t understand the prestige of this university; the global prestige of this university,” Mourning (pictured) said. “Never in my wildest dreams would I ever thought as a freshman that I would be sitting on the board of that university. Now I’m rubbing elbows with CEOs and billionaires and individuals that helped change this world.” Mourning was elected along with former NBA star Mitch Richmond and NCAA championship-winning coaches Nolan Richardson and Gary Williams. They’ll be inducted Aug. 8 in Springfield, Mass. – AP
