Mikaela Shiffrin takes advantage of a massive first-run lead to win a World Cup giant slalom in Kronplatz and earn her 10th victory of the season. Having established a 1.39-second lead in the opening leg, Shiffrin finished a comfortable 1.21 seconds ahead of Tessa Worley of France on the steep Erta slope.

Petra Vlhova wins slalom to deny Mikaela Shiffrin 8th straight victory

Petra Vlhova of Slovakia has won a women’s World Cup night slalom, denying Mikaela Shiffrin a record eighth consecutive win in the discipline. Racing in dense snowfall, Vlhova was third after the opening run but impressed by posting the fastest second-run time to beat Shiffrin by 0.15 seconds. Anna Swenn Larsson of Sweden was 1.05 behind in third.

Italy’s Dominik Paris makes it two World Cup victories in two days on home snow by winning a super-G by the slimmest of margins on Saturday. Paris beat Olympic champion Matthias Mayer of Austria by 0.01 seconds for a record fourth win on the Stelvio course, breaking a tie with Austrian greats Hermann Maier and Michael Walchhofer.

American Mikaela Shiffrin wins record 36th World Cup slalom

Mikaela Shiffrin has become the most successful female slalom skier in the 52-year history of the World Cup by winning the last race of 2018. The American built on a big first-run lead to beat Petra Vlhova of Slovakia by 0.29 seconds for her 36th slalom victory. Shiffrin previously shared the record with Marlies Raich. Shiffrin also became the first skier, male or female, to win 15 World Cup races in a single calendar year.

Best Hand Fun Ski event upcoming

The 28th annual Best Hand Fun Ski and Snowshoe Event is scheduled for Jan. 5 at the 4th of July Pass Recreation area in Idaho. Check-in time is 10:30-11:30 a.m. The event starts at 11:30 and prizes will be awarded at 1:30 p.m.
