Didi Gregorius is projected to return to the New York Yankees next month, a faster recovery from Tommy John surgery than expected. He is scheduled to play shortstop next week at extended spring training in Tampa, Florida. It will be his first game action since surgery on his right elbow in October. Manager Aaron Boone does not expect Gregorius will need the equivalent of a full spring training, which is about six weeks.

Shortstop Trea Turner has been activated from the 10-day injured list by the Washington Nationals, who placed starting pitcher Anibal Sanchez on the IL. The 25-year-old Turner missed 38 games with a broken right index figure sustained April 2 against Philadelphia. He hit .357 with a double and two homers through the first four games of the season. Sanchez was removed in the second inning of Thursday’s start against the New York Mets with a left hamstring strain.
