 The Navy began releasing documents from the investigation into the deadliest submarine disaster in U.S. history on Wednesday, but the Navy said the documents released under a court order don’t shed any new light on the cause of the sinking.

The Miss Spokane was christened in 1917 with elaborate ceremonies on Lake Coeur d’Alene. Unfortunately, the vessel immediately proved disappointing “because it did not develop the speed necessary to compete with the railroads, and was unmanageable in the St. Joe River.”
