Anaheim Ducks buy out contract of former MVP Corey Perry

The Anaheim Ducks have bought out the contract of former NHL MVP Corey Perry after his 14 seasons with the franchise. Perry has spent his entire career with the Ducks, becoming the franchise leader with 988 games played. Perry has been a teammate and frequent linemate of Ducks captain Ryan Getzlaf for their entire careers.

Close to home: Anaheim Ducks promote Dallas Eakins to coach

Dallas Eakins is the Anaheim Ducks’ new coach. The Ducks filled the NHL’s last head coaching vacancy with the veteran coach of their AHL affiliate in San Diego. Eakins coached the Edmonton Oilers from the start of the 2013-14 season until December 2014, going 36-63-14. Eakins spent the past four seasons with the Gulls, leading them to the AHL’s conference finals this season.

NHL Capsules: Pontus Aberg scores twice in 3rd, Ducks beat Caps 6-5

Pontus Aberg scored twice in the third period, giving Anaheim the lead with 5:05 remaining, and the Ducks stopped Washington’s seven-game winning streak a 6-5 victory Sunday. The Ducks trailed 5-1 in the second before rallying for their fourth consecutive victory. Ryan Getzlaf had a goal and two assists and Rickard Rakell had a goal and an assist in the finale of a five-game trip. Ryan Miller stopped 19 shots, and Andrew Cogliano and Hampus Lindholm also scored in Anaheim’s highest-scoring game of the season.

Ducks sign G John Gibson to 8-year, $51.2 million extension

Goalie John Gibson has agreed to an eight-year, $51.2 million contract extension with the Anaheim Ducks. Gibson has been a steady starter for the Ducks for the past three years after breaking into the NHL in 2014. He set career highs last season with 31 victories and a .926 save percentage while playing in 60 games.

Tomas Hertl, Martin Jones help Sharks finish sweep of Ducks with 2-1 win

Tomas Hertl scored the tiebreaking goal 9:09 into the third period, Martin Jones was spectacular in goal yet again, and the San Jose Sharks completed a first-round sweep of the rival Anaheim Ducks with a 2-1 victory in Game 4. Hertl scored just 1:16 after the Ducks finally got a puck past Jones when he deflected a point shot from Marc-Edouard Vlasic past John Gibson. San Jose then held on to advance to the second round against the expansion Vegas Golden Knights.

Francois Beauchemin returns to Anaheim Ducks for 3rd time

Francois Beauchemin keeps coming back to the Anaheim Ducks, and his third stint probably will be the final NHL season. The veteran defenseman agreed to an incentive-laden one-year contract Monday to return to the Stanley Cup contenders.
