Driver hurt when car hits semi

A Sandpoint woman was hospitalized Saturday morning after hitting a semitruck and driving off an embankment on state Highway 95 near Sagle. Sierra J. Anderson, 28, was negotiating a curve in a northbound Kia Spectra when she crossed the centerline and hit a southbound semi, driven by Ken Hofer, 50, of Manitoba, about 10:41 a.m., according to Idaho State Police.

A 56-year-old Chewelah woman was killed Wednesday evening in a one-vehicle rollover accident on Old Chewelah Road just north of the town, said interim Sheriff LaVonne Webb of Stevens County.

WSU graduate killed in rollover crash

A recent graduate of Washington State University whose parents emigrated from Russia more than 20 years ago was killed Wednesday evening in a one-vehicle rollover accident along the Snake River southwest of Pullman. Tanya Guseva, 22, of Mukilteo, Wash., died at the scene on Almota Ferry Road near Ilia Landing in Garfield County, state troopers said.

In brief: Washington soldier killed in Afghanistan

A paratrooper from Western Washington was one of two soldiers who died from a roadside bombing in Afghanistan. Staff Sgt. Casey Combs, 28, of Auburn, Wash., and Sgt. David Stephens, 28, of Tullahoma, Tenn., were fatally wounded Thursday in the bombing near Miri, Afghanistan, the 82nd Airborne Division said Saturday.

Woman Hospitalized After Rollover Near Ritzville

A Sprague, Wash., woman remained hospitalized late Wednesday after she was involved in a one-car accident near Ritzville, Washington State Patrol troopers said. Carol F. Vela, 54, sustained a broken jaw, clavicle and other fractures when her car flipped on Interstate 90, troopers said. She was eastbound on I-90, about 15 miles east of Ritzville, at 2:35 p.m. when her car went into the median. It traveled more than 150 feet, came back into traffic, skidded into the median again and flipped twice, troopers said. Vela was not wearing a seat belt and was thrown from the car, troopers said.
