100 years ago in Spokane: New club promotes walking to work

“Hike to work every morning” – that was the slogan adopted by the young men of Spokane’s Junior Loyalty League. A.D. Brewer, a YMCA secretary, said that “a number of men are taking up the idea of hiking down to work in the morning” and that “they find it an easy method of keeping in physical condition, and that is now a patriotic duty.”
