Wisconsin receiver seeks dismissal of sexual assault count

Wisconsin receiver Quintez Cephus has made his first court appearance on charges alleging that he sexually assaulted two drunken women this spring. Cephus’ hearing Thursday came a day after his attorneys asked the judge to dismiss the more serious sexual assault count against him because they say the women weren’t as impaired as investigators allege. Cephus amassed 501 yards receiving last season and led the Badgers with six touchdown catches despite breaking his right leg last November.

Wisconsin defense retools at OLB this spring, but set inside

Wisconsin is retooling at outside linebacker this spring, when coach Paul Chryst will start evaluating potential replacements for the productive Garret Dooley and Leon Jacobs. Andrew Van Ginkel seems set to fill one starting spot. The Badgers are set at inside linebacker, where All-American T.J. Edwards is back to lead a strong group.

Alex Hornibrook threw three touchdown passes, Wisconsin forced four turnovers, and the No. 9 Badgers recovered from a miserable start with a dominating second half to beat Utah State 59-10. Freshman Jonathan Taylor ran for 87 yards and a touchdown on nine carries in the opener. Star tight end Troy Fumagalli caught the go-ahead touchdown early in the third quarter, and Zander Neuville and Quintez Cephus made highlight-reel scoring grabs.

Topple-seed: Villanova stunned 65-62 by Wisconsin in NCAA

Top-seeded Villanova was bounced from the NCAA Tournament by eighth-seeded Wisconsin, which overcame foul trouble for two of its stars in the second half Saturday to upset the defending champions 65-62 in the East region.
