Gonzaga men struggle but get past Cal Poly

SEATTLE – There’s a good chance Gonzaga, should it go on to earn a high seed in the NCAA tournament, will be back at KeyArena for the early rounds in roughly three months. Perhaps the Zags worked out some kinks here Saturday, overcoming game-long turnovers and shaky defensive rebounding in the closing minutes for a ragged 63-50 victory over Cal Poly in front of 11,741 at the 12th annual Battle in Seattle.

Ticket offerings set for Battle in Seattle

Tickets for the annual Battle in Seattle, Gonzaga University’s yearly men’s basketball game at KeyArena, will go on sale to Bulldog Club members Wednesday at 9 a.m. The Zags will play 2014 NCAA tournament participant Cal Poly on Dec. 20 at 7 p.m.

Junior guard for Gonzaga scores 20 in Battle in Seattle win

SEATTLE – Gonzaga basketball coach Mark Few tried – without much success – to convince anyone who would listen that South Alabama wasn’t a pushover. Few tried to impart to his team that the Jaguars were a solid rebounding team. He didn’t seem to have much luck there either.

South Alabama GU’s ‘Battle’ foe

College basketball: The Gonzaga men’s basketball team will face South Alabama Dec. 14 in the 11th annual State Farm Battle in Seattle at KeyArena. The event marks the third meeting between the two teams, with the Zags winning twice. The teams last faced each other in 1999 in the Hawkeye Classic in Iowa City, Iowa, with the Zags defeating the Jaguars 80-63.  The first meeting came in 1996 in Seattle during the U.S. West Tournament where the Bulldogs won 60-43 in KeyArena.

Olynyk dominates inside, leads Zags over K-State in ‘Battle’

SEATTLE – Prior to the Battle in Seattle, Gonzaga held a prelude during the week: Battles in Practice. The Bulldogs, stung by their first defeat of the season last week to Illinois, dialed up the intensity during practice and carried it onto the court, roughing up Kansas State 68-52 in front of 16,241 Saturday at KeyArena.

Redemption time

SEATTLE – Not much new with the Gonzaga Bulldogs in the past week, other than they lost their first game, took final exams and their name surfaced in conference realignment talks. To cap off an interesting seven days, No. 14 Gonzaga (9-1) faces Kansas State (7-1) tonight at KeyArena in the 10th-annual Battle in Seattle. Gonzaga, 5-4 at the event after a 71-60 win over Arizona last year, suffered numerous defensive lapses in an 85-74 loss to visiting Illinois a week ago.
