Millwood church members make, sell uncommon items at bazaar

The back rooms of Millwood Presbyterian Church are bustling this week as the Women of Millwood put last-minute touches and price tags on items for their 25th annual bazaar Saturday. The sale will run from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the church, 3223 N. Marguerite Road.

Religion Notebook: Blessing of animals invites pets, owners

Our pets are part of our families, and St. Mark’s Lutheran Church, 316 E. 24th Ave., will offer its 23rd annual Blessing of the Animals ceremony Sunday during the 10:45 a.m. service. Families are invited to bring their pets, who will sit with them and come forward for a blessing. The church estimates more than 100 pets will receive the blessing.

Religion Notebook: Veterans Day Mass Friday

The Cathedral of Our Lady of Lourdes, 1115 W. Riverside Ave., will offer a special Veterans Day Mass Friday at noon. The Rev. Darrin Connall, rector of the cathedral, will celebrate the Mass, the Knights of Columbus will serve as the honor guard and Chris Cook, the cathedral trumpeter, will play taps.

Church Notes: Buddhist Temple food festival this weekend

Spokane Buddhist Temple, 927 S. Perry St., will present its 21st Annual Fall Food Festival on Sunday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. The festival, Aki Matsuri, will offer chicken and vegetarian yakisoba bento box lunches with miso soup or Japanese cabbage for $12, available for dine-in or carry-out.

Central United Methodist Church, 518 W. Third St., will hold a Community Fall Festival Saturday from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. The festival offers a lunch of soup, salad bar, dessert and coffee or tea for $5, local crafts, baked goods, and a quilt raffle.

Thanksgiving is just a week away, and area churches are planning special services and dinners for those in need. • St. Aloysius Parish, Gonzaga University and Sodexho Dining Services will present the eighth annual Community Thanksgiving Dinner next Thursday from noon to 2 p.m. in Cataldo Hall, 502 E.
