Gonzaga Prep, the No. 2 seed coming out of the Greater Spokane League, turned up the heat on Chiawana, the No. 2 seed from the Mid-Columbia Conference, jumping to a 21-0 lead by intermission and powering its way to a 28-7 win in a crossover playoff game Friday night at Gonzaga Prep.

Bria Bowton scored 16 points and Lexi Erickson added 12 points and 12 rebounds as Ferris erased a 13-point first-quarter deficit and beat Chiawana 74-68 in a nonleague game Saturday in Pasco. The Saxons forced six turnovers in a 20-4 third-quarter run to get back into the game.

PASCO – The Chiawana High defense came into Friday’s crossover against Gonzaga Prep with a giant chip on its shoulder. A year after watching the Bullpups run up an astounding 602 yards on the ground in a State 4A play-in rout, the Riverhawks vowed history would not repeat itself.

If the Lake City football team didn’t believe before Friday it believes now. The Timberwolves upset visiting Chiawana, the No. 3-ranked 4A team in Washington, 33-26 in a nonleague game.
