From our archives, 100 years ago Samuel R. Clemens, a Colfax farmer, had eluded capture for more than 14 years after he shot and killed a young man who had taken Clemens’ daughter to a dance against his wishes.

Pedestrian, 76, killed crossing street

A 76-year-old woman was struck and killed by a pickup truck while crossing the street Saturday afternoon in Colfax. According to the Colfax Police Department, Maryann Largent was in the crosswalk at the intersection of Main and Stevens streets in Colfax at 3:35 p.m. when she was hit by a 2008 Chevrolet pickup, driven by Jesse Kilpatrick, 57, of Moses Lake.

WSU student hospitalized following alleged joy ride

A 22-year-old Washington State University student who was injured in a one-vehicle rollover Tuesday is suspected of causing damage to the WSU campus and golf course prior to the rollover.
