Benny Feilhaber headed back to Sporting K.C. in trade with Rapids

Sporting Kansas City has acquired veteran midfielder Benny Feilhaber from the Colorado Rapids. In exchange, Colorado gets 22-year-old defender Abdul Rwatubyaye and an undisclosed draft pick. The 34-year-old Feilhaber joined Sporting KC in 2013 and helped lead the club to the MLS Cup title. He wound up scoring 32 goals with 37 assists during five seasons in Kansas City.

Colorado Rapids fire head coach Anthony Hudson

The Colorado Rapids have fired head coach Anthony Hudson. Assistant coach Conor Casey is taking over on an interim basis while the club searches for a permanent replacement. Hudson won just eight of 43 matches as Rapids head coach from November 2017 through this April.

Tim Howard says this MLS season will be his last

Colorado Rapids and former U.S. national team goalkeeper Tim Howard says this season will be his last in Major League Soccer. Howard made the announcement Tuesday on social media, a day after the Rapids reported to training camp. Howard made 121 appearances with the national team, starting for the United States at the World Cup in South Africa in 2010 and again in Brazil in 2014.

Will Bruin leads Seattle Sounders past Colorado Rapids 2-1

Will Bruin scored twice and Stefan Frei made a spectacular save to help the Seattle Sounders to their second win in their last eight games, 2-1 over the Colorado Rapids. It was Seattle’s second straight win over Colorado on the Fourth of July. The Sounders are 7-3-1 all-time at Colorado.

Sounders beat Rapids 1-0 to advance to MLS Cup

Jordan Morris scored in the 56th minute and the Seattle Sounders advanced to their first MLS Cup, beating the Colorado Rapids 1-0 on Sunday in the second leg of the Western Conference final. Nelson Haedo Valdez set up the goal to help Seattle take the series 3-1 in aggregate scoring. The Sounders will play Toronto or Montreal on Dec. 10 for the league title.

Nico Lodeiro gives Seattle 2-1 win over Colorado in West finals

Nicolas Lodeiro scored on a penalty kick in the 61st minute and the Seattle Sounders beat the Colorado Rapids 2-1 in the first-leg of the MLS Western Conference finals. Seattle will take an important one-goal advantage into the second match of the two-game series on Sunday in Colorado.

Seattle Sounders take weekend tumble

SEATTLE – Sounders defender Tyrone Mears lined up an early free kick near the right sideline, looking to turn what would prove to be his team’s best spell of the game into a rare goal. Mears approached the ball, took a mighty swing with it with his right leg ... and slipped on the shoddy temporary grass surface. His legs went out from under him, and Mears landed on his rump with a thud.

Sounders take over top spot in West by beating Rapids

Marco Pappa (pictured, left) scored in the 16th minute to lift the Seattle Sounders to a 1-0 win over the Colorado Rapids on Wednesday night, moving them into first place in the Western Conference. Pappa’s goal was his first of the season for the Sounders (7-3-2, 23 points). Goalkeeper Stefan Frei earned his league-leading seventh shutout and his third in a row. Seattle has not allowed a goal at home for 380 minutes, dating back to a 3-2 loss to San Jose on March 14. Pappa put the Sounders on the board in the 16th minute. He picked up the loose cross just to the left of the restraining arc, took two steps toward the top of the penalty area, and curled a right-footer around Colorado goalkeeper Clint Irwin and into the back right corner. The Rapids fell to 2-3-7. – AP
