Mets place Jeff McNeil on IL with hamstring injury, recall Ruben Tejada

The New York Mets have placed All-Star Jeff McNeil on the 10-day injured list and have recalled infielder Ruben Tejada from Triple-A Syracuse. The Mets say McNeil suffered a mild left hamstring strain when trying to beat out an infield grounder in the ninth inning of Tuesday night’s 5-3 loss to the Atlanta Braves. Manager Mickey Callaway says it’s too soon to know if McNeil will miss more than 10 days.

Mets’ Jeff McNeil hopes HR convinces wife to OK puppy adoption

Mets All-Star Jeff McNeil is driving a ruff bargain ahead of the trade deadline. McNeil is lobbying his wife, Tatiana, to let him adopt one of the puppies brought to Citi Field by the North Shore Animal League. He thinks he helped his case by hitting a three-run homer during a 6-3 win over the Pirates, saying that “hitting a home run after holding a puppy, I think that gives me a little bargaining chip.” The couple plans to visit the puppy Saturday and then make a decision.
