A person familiar with the deal says Logan Couture has agreed to a $64 million, eight-year contract extension with the San Jose Sharks. The person tells The Associated Press that the sides reached agreement on the deal that can become official on Sunday when Couture enters the final year of his $30 million, five-year contract.

Healthy Logan Couture key for Sharks heading into playoffs

Logan Couture had problems just eating and breathing heading into the playoffs last year because of an errant puck that shattered his face. He’s healthy now and the Sharks are hoping Couture can again perform like he did two years ago when he led the NHL in playoff scoring and helped lead San Jose to the Stanley Cup Final.
