MINNEAPOLIS – Angelo Rodriguez scored two first-half goals and Minnesota held on to beat New York City FC 2-1 after going a man down Saturday night. Rodriguez headed home a wide cross from Miguel Ibarra to open the scoring in the 20th minute for Minnesota (11-16-3). In the 36th, Rodriguez intercepted Ben Sweat’s off-target back pass and slipped behind the goalkeeper to easily finish his second goal.

Nicolas Lodeiro and Will Bruin score late, Sounders beat Minnesota 2-1

Nicolas Lodeiro and Will Bruin scored stoppage-time goals to give the Seattle Sounders a 2-1 victory over Minnesota United. After Minnesota United’s Miguel Ibarra was called for a handball, Lodeiro converted from the spot to tie it for the Sounders in the 91st minute. Bruin then added the winner in the seventh minute of stoppage time with a chip shot to beat the onrushing goalkeeper.

Clint Dempsey had two goals and one assists to help the Seattle Sounders beat Minnesota United 4-0 in the first meeting between the teams. Seattle is unbeaten in its last seven games, including three consecutive shutouts, with its last loss coming on June 17 against New York City FC.
