December 11, 1963 - August 25, 2024 Michael Wayne Williams was born in Ravenswood, West Virginia, to Jesse Paul and Sybil (Adams) Williams. After a long battle of health conditions, he passed on to join his family that preceded him in death: his mother, Sybil; father, Jesse Paul; and siblings, J.P., Teresa, and Vickie. He is survived by his ex-wife, Linda Williams; daughters, Asaha and Mariah Williams, and grandchildren, Brooklyn, Spencer, and Paisley; daughter, Shelby Stone; stepdaughter, Lisa Crabb, and grandchildren, Kenzie, Hayla, and Shaina. He had the incredible experience of living in Ghana, Africa, for a large portion of his childhood years while his father worked for Kaiser Aluminum there. He had some amazing stories he loved to share about that! He was a VERY avid nature and animal lover, a fisherman of our local creeks, and had an awesome green thumb for all things gardening!

Barbara was born in England during WWII. Her Mom and Dad met during the war. They were married on D-Day. Barbara and her Mom were shipped home on the Queen Mary, full of war brides. Barbara had a love of books and reading, so most of her life she worked for libraries. She ended her career at EWU Library in Cheney. Barbara had a love of dogs and flowers. She had many pots for her garden of flowers. The last few years, she lived at Life's Journey Memory Home, where she made many friends and enjoyed all the babies of the employees.

April 22, 1927 - August 31, 2024 (Age 97) Lois was the first child born to Adolph and Lydia Schultz. She was born at home in Harrington, WA. Her dad purchased a section of farmland nine miles outside of Harrington and farmed this property all his life. Lois grew up there as she and her brother, Robert, helped with chores and raising cows, chickens, pigs, horses, and a garden. Lois had her pet horse, Star, which she and the neighbor kids rode. They had a dog, Billie, and many other pets and barn cats. Lois was in 4-H and had a chicken, Ka-Ka, which she entered in the Davenport Fair and won a blue ribbon. Lois went to Harrington School for grades 1-12 and graduated in 1945. During spring and fall, she and her brother would ride their bikes about 1 1/2 miles to the school bus stop. During winter, their dad would take them to the bus stop in a horse-drawn wagon or sleigh. There were nine kids in her graduating class. After high school, she attended Sacred Heart School of Nursing and graduated in 1948 as an RN. She started her nursing career at St. Ignatious Hospital in Colfax, WA, for a year and then went to Sacred Heart Hospital in Spokane, WA, for 10 years. Lois had many friends and co-workers there. She worked in the ED and IV booth. At the time, the Nuns ran the hospital and kept the nurses on their toes. Lois worked at Valley General Hospital for a few years in the late sixties through the early seventies when it opened. After that she stayed home as a homemaker and raised three children. Lois met her husband, Fred Rogers, on a blind date set up by her lifelong nurse friend, Ruby Moland. Her and Fred were married in Harrington on June 25, 1950, and were married for over 60 years. They built their first home in Opportunity, WA, in the early '50s and lived there until building another home in Otis Orchards, WA, in the late '60s. She had many friends from her nursing career, Fred's farming friends, and neighbors. Lois and Fred had three children, Kevin Arthur (Becky) was born in 1955; Kirk Alan was born in 1956; and Karen (Tom) Gladden was born in 1958. Lois also had four grandchildren, Mackensie (Alex) Liberman, Bryan (Christina) Lopes, Jason (Courtney) Rogers, and Brandon Lopes along with numerous great-grandchildren. Lois enjoyed gardening flowers and vegetables, growing fruits, being involved in local zoning issues and politics. They took trips with friends to Spain, Italy, Germany, England, Wales, and cities in the U.S. Lois enjoyed Fred's farming of certified merion bluegrass, certified wheat, and barley. There were many late nights when dinner was at 9 pm. Kevin and Kirk helped their dad with the farming for many years during the summers. She and Fred enjoyed their involvement in racing stockcars and limited hydroplanes in the N.W. with Earl Wham as the driver in the '50s, '60s, and '70s. They raced stockcars at Mead, The Stadium, and the Fairgrounds Speedway. The hydroplanes they were well known in the N.W., The Squirrel, Holy Smoke, and Miss Merion Bluegrass (2X National Champion). The hydros raced in Spokane and across the state and even in Miami, FL. There were plenty of trophies and records. Fred and Lois were also involved going to many stockcar races from Calgary, AB, to Phoenix, AZ, to watch their son, Kirk, win races, set track records, and win championships. Lois was a member of Christ Lutheran church in Opportunity for many years. Lois lived at the home in Otis Orchards with Fred and their German Shepherds, many cats, and surrounded by white tail deer, birds, squirrels, and coyotes. Lois was a dear and kind person and was loved by all. Lois and Fred built the housing development 'Woodland Hills Estates' on their farmland in Otis Orchards in 2004. What a beautiful 37 home development. With the help of Jim Stravens, Joe and Julie Wilhelm, and Kevin and Becky Rogers, it was successful. Lois was preceded in death by her loving husband, 'Farmer Fred' Rogers in November 2010; her brother, Robert Schultz in March 2018; her mother, Lydia Schultz in March 1998; and her father, Adolph Schultz in October 1985. Lois had a wonderful caretaker at home, Mary Proctor, who took care of her for years until Lois fell and broke her left hip in August 2019. While in Mary's care, she received the best care we could have ever prayed for. Mary went above and beyond her call of duties for Lois, and we sincerely thank her for this. Mary was truly thoughtful, honest, and hard working. Lois then lived at Guardian Angel Homes in Liberty Lake, WA, where she received excellent and loving care from the great staff until she passed away. She loved the staff and facility. She was also taken care of by Hospice of Spokane the last few months. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Lois' name to Partners for Pets or Hospice of Spokane.

June 21, 1951 - August 30, 2024 Spokane — Darlene Absalonson, a lifelong resident of Spokane, WA, passed away peacefully on August 30th, at the age of 73. Born to Lloyd and Mary Absalonson. She was our beloved daughter, sister, aunt, and sister in Christ. Darlene was a graduate of Shadle Park High School (1969). She is remembered for her warm heart, quick wit, and love for family. She was eager to give, even when she had little to offer. She found joy in bringing happiness to others, with the true spirit of selflessness. Over the years, Darlene found comfort and care where she resided. The family extends their sincere appreciation, especially to Mallon Place and Purity Adult Home for their love and care of Darlene. Preceded in death by her parents, Michael Absalonson and Bill Kendall. Darlene is survived by her sister, Linda Kendall; brother, Steve (Audrey) Absalonson; and nieces and nephews: Robb (Heather) Arnold of Chewelah, WA, Jared (Andrea) Arnold of Chewelah, WA, Trevor (Joe) Arnold of Molalla, OR, Michelle Curtis of Lake Tapps, WA, and Nick (Angie) Absalonson of Snohomish, WA. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her. Rest in eternal peace, Darlene. A service will be held in Darlene's honor on September 21st, 2024, at 2:00 pm at Fairmont Memorial Cemetery. Bernice Melcher (92) passed away peacefully on September 3, 2024, at her home in Odessa, WA. She was born February 15, 1932, to John and Matilda (Tillie Frieske) Lobe in Odessa, WA. She married Kenneth Melcher on August 21, 1949, and they celebrated 65 years together. Bernice was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Ken (2015); brothers, Leonard, Harold, and Clinton Lobe; sisters, Alma Lobe and Doris Melcher; and half-brother, Steve Lobe. Bernice is survived by her children, Wes (Vickey) Melcher and Nancy (Karl) Zacher; seven grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and homemaker who will be greatly missed. Bernice was a member of Zion-Emmanuel Lutheran Church where she served in various capacities over the years, which included working in the office and kitchen, LWML treasurer, manning the Deutsches Fest booth, and sewing more quilt tops than anyone can recall. She liked watching the Seattle Seahawks, Seattle Mariners, and Gonzaga Basketball games when she wasn’t solving puzzle books. She enjoyed cooking, canning, and country music; however, her favorite job was driving truck during wheat harvest for 45+ years that she still missed until her last days. Her second favorite job was being on call 24/7 to help move farm machinery or serve food to grandkids, even at 2:00 a.m. A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, September 25, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. at Zion-Emmanuel Lutheran Church, 4279 State Route 21 N, Odessa, WA. Lynn E. Tower 86, of Spokane passed away on Sept. 7th, 2024. Lynn was born on Feb. 24th, 1938, in Burns, Oregon, to Harvey and Doris (Reed) Tower. He graduated from Lewis and Clark High School in 1956. Lynn went on to attend Washington State University and graduated in 1962 with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. After graduation, he joined the Army and was stationed in Huntsville, Alabama. Lynn returned to Bovill, Idaho, in 1963 to propose to his longtime sweetheart, Doris Crane. The couple went on to have three children together. Lynn worked at Kaiser Aluminum for 38 years in Spokane, Washington, Mexico, Missouri, and Mandaville, Jamaica. He retired while working at the Mead plant in Spokane in 1999. Lynn enjoyed golf, slow pitch softball, and many outdoor activities such as camping and fishing. He was unfailingly kind and loved by many friends and family. Lynn was preceded in death by his brothers, Lee (Jo) and Arthur (Michelle) Tower. He is survived by his wife, Doris Tower; sons, Jeff (Cheryl) and Dan (Alyssa); daughter, Laura; grandchildren, Whitney (Jake), Josh (Emily), Justin (Katie), and Max; as well as two great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. A Celebration of his life is scheduled for 11:00 a.m. on Sept. 23rd, at the Sunset Chapel at Fairmount Memorial Park. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Lynn’s life.

July 30, 1932 - August 20, 2024 Spokane — On Tuesday, August 20, 2024, Helen Haney, loving Mom, Grandma, Great-Grandma, and Great-Great-Grandma passed away in Spokane, WA, at the age of 92. Helen was born on July 30, 1932, in Ione, WA, to Henning and Pearl Anderson. She attended school in Ione and graduated from Ione High School. She married the love of her life, Tom Haney on January 1, 1954, in Ione, and they raised their four children there. Helen was a homemaker and a great cook. She always had food ready for every occasion, and you never walked away from the house hungry. Helen also handled all of the bookkeeping for the family logging business. She loved to play bingo and go to the casino, but her biggest joy was having family around. Helen was preceded in death by her husband, Tom; her father, Henning; mother, Pearl; brothers, Harold, Milton, and John; and sisters, Elsie and Jean. She is survived by sons, Bill (Sandy) Haney and Randy (Laura) Haney of Ione; and daughters, Denise (Mike) Magee and Diane (Glenn) Jones of Spokane; along with 12 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. November 18, 1928 - July 14, 2024 Sacramento — Margaret, a native of Viola, ID, died peacefully at her son's home in Sacramento, CA, on Sunday, June 14, 2024, after a brief illness. She was 95. She was preceded in death by two older brothers, Frank and Lawrence Weber of Moscow, ID; a younger sister, Katherine Weber Starr of Hillsboro, OR; and her husbands, Art Nelson and Slim Baumgartner. Margaret was born on the family farm in Viola, ID, where the family is still active in the Palouse farming community producing wheat, barley, lentils, and peas on the family's 360 acres. She attended elementary school at Viola and graduated from Moscow High School in 1946. She attended the University of Idaho from 1946-1950 and graduated with a degree in home economics. She moved to Lewiston, to work for the Idaho Extension Service. The beginning of the 1950s was the beginning of the use of electric appliances in farming communities in that area where her duties were to teach farm and city housewives the use of this new technology. (How to cook with an electric stove, use of a refrigerator and freezer, sewing and washing machines and other home appliances that we take for granted today, food canning and preserving fruits and vegetables.) This job required her to travel to farm homes and homes in the Northern areas of Washington and Idaho and also advising Four-H groups. In 1950-51, she met and married Arthur Lee Nelson, of Lewiston. Their only son, Arthur Scott Nelson, was born in 1952, and later that year they moved to Spokane, WA, where Art was a salesman for Craft Foods, and Margaret was a demonstrator for Craft at local stores in the area. In 1957, she became the Home Economist for the Continental Baking Company (Wonder Bread Hostess Cakes). One of her main duties was the educational bakery tours to school groups, teaching them about the wheat production in the Inland Empire, how wheat is made into flour and then bread and cake. If anyone from the 1950s-'60s remembers a trip through the Wonder Bread Bakery, it was probably Margaret who took them through. In the early 1970s, she worked for the Spokane Community College system teaching special needs young adults how to live on their own. In the late '70s, she worked for Amfac Electric where she demonstrated and gave classes on how to use Litton microwave ovens. She and Art would travel throughout Eastern Washington, Northern Idaho, and Western Montana teaching clients how to cook and not be afraid of this new technology. (She would do the talking while Art passed around food samples that she'd prepared.) With the advancement, knowledge, and major purchasing of microwaves, the internet became the demise of the on-sight educational program that was no longer needed. She retired from being a Home Economist in the 1980s. Margaret and Art traveled to Canada and Europe before retiring to Yuma, AZ, until Art died in 1999. In 2000, she married Harland "Slim" Baumgartner of Chewelah, WA. Here she learned to play golf. In winter they would drive their Dodge Van to Yuma and stop at Scott's for a few days and proceed to her home at Saguaro Estates. They enjoyed playing golf with other "snowbirds" from all parts of the US and Canada, going to swap meets, playing cards, and traveling. When the weather started to get too hot, they would pack up and head back north, stopping again at Scott's. When Slim died in 2014, Margaret decided to live in Yuma full-time to be with friends, including Howard Brown, who became her life partner. In December of 2022, Howard was experiencing ongoing health problems, and in January of 2023 they both decided to part; Howard going to live with his son, Gary, in Temecula, CA, and Margaret to live with her son, Scott, in Sacramento. Howard would pass two weeks later on January 17. While living in Sacramento, Margaret enjoyed traveling with her son to tune some 40 pipe organs in the Sacramento Valley, going as far South as Fresno and North to Ukiah, going with him to practice at his church, All Saints Episcopal in Sacramento, where he is Organist-Choirmaster, and helping to do office work of filing and organizing; things to keep her busy. Margaret also enjoyed reading, gardening, cooking, baking, cleaning, organizing, and attending sports events. She also enjoyed summer weekend trips at Lake Coeur d'Alene, ID, boating and unwinding with a gin and tonic and frozen daiquiris, and later, boxed wine! She was a member of the Alpha Chi Omega sorority, Ladies of the Oriental Shrine, and the Spokane Sports Car Club. She was a member of Gethsemane Lutheran Church in Spokane Valley, and All Saints Episcopal in Sacramento. A Memorial Service will be held in Spokane on Thursday, September 19, Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist, 127 E. 12th Ave. Musical Prelude begins at 10:30 a.m., and the Memorial Service at 11:00 a.m. Interment will be in the Weber family plot, Moscow, ID, on Friday, September 20, 11:00 a.m., Moscow Cemetery, 1612-1682 Troy Road. On July 27th, 2024, after a brief illness, Kermit W. Anderson went to be with his loving wife, Annouchka, for as he was fond of saying “When it’s your time, it’s your time.” On the plus side, we’ll be voting for Ronald Reagan in the upcoming elections. Kermit was born on January 31st, 1940, in Spokane. He was the second child of five, born to Kermit and Wardine Anderson. With the exception of 2 ½ fun filled and memorable years in the small town of LaCrosse, Kermit grew up in Spokane. Kermit and his older sister, Karen, were free ranch children. This led to many adventures and misadventures. Once, at a very young age, he survived being struck by a car, and the wrath of his mother for being struck by a car, escaping with only a broken leg from the car, not his mother. He once caught his sister smoking and always believed that she was the reason the chicken coop burned down, but he never ratted her out. Kermit, even at a young age was always a builder. Wood projects, forts, auto repair, he dabbled in electrical projects, and even learned how to weld. Kermit attended Garfield Elementary and North Central High School. He excelled at math and history. English, not so much. Upon graduation in 1958, he would attend Grace College in Winona Lake, Indiana, graduating in 1962. Shortly thereafter, Uncle Sam came calling. He was inducted into the U.S. Army and upon completing basic training, he would spend the next two years serving his country as an ambulance driver stationed in Germany. While stationed in Germany, Kermit would meet the love of his life, a young Parisian, Anne Marie Jeannot (Annouchka), and her young daughter, Lynne (Dianna). The couple would marry on May 29th, 1964. The following year the family would grow with the birth of a son, Kjell. When the family returned to Spokane, it would grow again with the addition of a son, Bjorn, and a daughter, Solvejg. Substitute teachers were never fond of Anderson first names. In 1965, with the help of family and with almost no experience, Kermit would found Star Steel, a steel fabrication company still in existence today. He would run his business the same way he lived his life, with honesty, integrity, humility, and compassion. What he didn’t know, he figured it out, and there was a lot of figuring. He never had delusions of self-grandeur. Kermit rarely enjoyed a sunrise, way too early, but he cherished sunsets. Walkin’ after midnight was his theme song. He never found a piece of wood that wasn’t worth saving. Food was one of the true pleasures in life. Room for dessert? Dumbest question ever! His custom-made Christmas cards, so creative, they shall be missed, although for relatives in France, not until March. He loved his cats and hated change, he had his routine, and it was his routine. A simple man with simple ways. Kermit was preceded in death by his one and only, Annouchka; his parents; his sisters, Karen and Karine; son-in-law, Charles "Chuck"; and his walking partners, Pete the Pup and Kolia. He is survived by his children, Dianna Nelson, Kjell Anderson (Jennifer), Bjorn Anderson (Stephanie), and Solvejg Rockliffe (Dean); his brothers, Kevin (Sandy) and Kim a.k.a. Big K.; along with eight grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. He also is survived by his (5) cats, Lady Gray, Sparkles, LG, Ebony, and A-36, plus (6) freeloading strays. John Leonard Rotell was born on August 1st, 1939, in Sharon, Pennsylvania, and graduated from high school in 1957. He enlisted in the U.S Army in 1958 where he served as an Operating Room Technician for three years. He then attended Pennsylvania State University, graduating in 1964 as a Registered Nurse and then served in the Vietnam War at a "MASH" unit. He returned to civilian life in 1969, working in the nursing field in Alaska and Seattle, WA. John then met the love of his life in 1970 and after five days of knowing her, he proposed and married Darlene that same year. He then entered into the Air Force as a First Lieutenant in 1971 and served at several AF bases around the U.S and Asia. In 1975 John completed the Primary Care Nurse Practitioner Course at the USAF School of Health Care Sciences in Wichita Falls, Texas, and was certified through the University of Nebraska Medical School in 1976. He stayed in the Air Force and was stationed at Fairchild AFB that fall in 1976 where he and Darlene decided to stay and raise their children. After retiring from the Air Force in 1984, John chose to open up a business and pursue his passion and love for gardening. John and his wife, Darlene, owned and operated the Spearman Gardens Nursery for several years. John then became a Nurse Practitioner/Physician Assistant at Rockwood clinic and worked in the Urgent care department for many years. John spent his time doing what he loved most which was hunting, fishing, gardening, golfing and most importantly spending time with his family. He also had a love for music and was given the opportunity to not only be the Road Manager but also a background singer for the group "The Letterman." John lived a full and happy life being married to his wife Darlene and raising their two daughters. He also enjoyed spending time with his grandkids. He was an amazing man of many talents and a man of many catch phrases, and he impacted lots of people in his life. He was the best husband, father, grandfather and soon to be great-grandfather that anyone could have asked for. He will be missed greatly and will always be known as our Mr. Wonderful. He is survived by his wife, Darlene, of 53 years; children, Shawna and Maria; his five grandkids: Kaitlyn, Emily, Megan, Kyle, and Jonathan; and their dog, Darby, who will greatly miss his cookies. Viewing will be held from 4pm to 6pm on Fri., Sept. 20, at Riplinger Funeral Home, 4305 N. Division St., in Spokane. Funeral Service will be held at 10:30am on Sat., Sept. 21, at St. Thomas More Parish, 515 W. St. Thomas More Way, Spokane. He will be laid to rest at Holy Cross Cemetery following the service.

We lost our force of nature suddenly on August 30, 2024. Beverly was such a cyclone of energy that her earthly body could not handle the force any longer. She shared her energy with everyone around her and always brought everyone up to her level of positivity and fun. Bev found success wherever she went, whatever she touched and whatever she attempted. She was so many things, a successful businesswoman, musician, hula dancer, chef, certified gemologist, but most of all, she was our family’s light. Born in Honolulu, Hawaii, Bev grew up in Hawaii and Montana. Graduating from CM Russell High School in 1973, and an alumna and volleyball and track athlete at the University of Montana. Predeceased by her father, John Ponikvar; mother, Justa (Anita) Ewald; and brother, Frank Ponikvar. Survived by wife, Kathleen Miller; son, Erik Danielson (Matthew); sister, Linda Ponikvar (Layne); brother, Richard Ponikvar, Charlotte Ponikvar; BFF, Kelly Ethier; and stepfather; Lyle Ewald. Auntie to JJ Williamson, Jess/April Ponikvar, Cassidy, Sierra/Joe McNew, Jazmine/Joseph Matautia, Jojo, Jazlene; and so many cousins in our large global Manuel, Ponikvar; and Miller families, and dear friend to so many. Scott Michael Harrison, 41, of Medical Lake, WA, passed away unexpectedly on September 9, 2024. He was born on March 3, 1983, in Spokane, WA. Scott is survived by his two children, Maddison Hebert and Jess Harrison; his parents, Randy and Bobbie Harrison; his sister, Cari Roderick (Sam); his brother, Matt Harrison; his long-time girlfriend, Ali Fino; two nephews, two nieces, and one great-niece. Scott attended Medical Lake High School, where he made long lasting friends. He had an enduring love for soccer. Scott started playing at age six and proudly wore #19 as a premier player on the River City Steelers. Scott never outgrew the joy of his childhood passions. Whether it was his lifelong adoration of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, where he proudly embodied Michelangelo while his girlfriend and kids represented the other turtles, or building Legos with his family, Scott knew how to keep the spirit of play alive. He even started a cherished Father’s Day tradition of building Lego sets together with his entire family. Priest Lake was Scott’s happy place, where he could often be found swimming, boating, hiking, or kayaking. He cherished his time as part of the mug club at the Priest Lake Brewery. Scott’s adventurous spirit shined brightest when he was orchestrating unforgettable experiences and ensuring everyone had a good time, even at the risk of embarrassing his kids with his bold outfits, like Chewbacca pajamas, Wonder Woman socks, or Ninja Turtle masks. Whether it was organizing family Fantasy Football leagues, March Madness pools, or making art on paint nights, Scott always found creative ways to bring people together. He carried on family traditions such as participating in annual fun runs like Bloomsday and dressing as Santa on Christmas Eve. As a huge Seahawks fan, Scott was always decked out in the team’s gear on game days. For the past few years, he was proud to be part of the Spokane GEG 1 Amazon team, where his positive, hard-working, spirit was evident every day. Scott was truly the most fun person to be around, and his ability to make every moment special will be deeply missed by all who knew him. Luis Humberto del Real, a longtime resident of Spokane, WA, passed away peacefully on Sept. 6, 2024, after a short battle with ALS. Luis was born on Dec. 2, 1954, in the mountains of Central Mexico. His family later moved to Guadalajara, Mexico. In 1983, Luis, his then wife, and three children (Eric, Justin, and Jason) moved to Spokane. Shortly after, Luis began working for McGlade’s Orchards on Greenbluff, and did so for the next eight years. In 1991, Luis met Karen Haverkamp. They later married and he became a stepfather to Chad and Michelle. Eventually becoming a grandfather to "his girls", Kaitlyn, Kendall, and Peyton, along with Chase, Parker, Dominic, and Aaliyah. In 1992, Luis opened his own landscaping/pruning business "Señor Clean", which he ran for 23 years. Luis was an extraordinary man. He was very kind, funny, loyal, and hard-working. He was a wonderful husband, stepfather, and the most amazing grandfather “Abuelito"! He will be greatly missed by all family and friends. A very special thank you to the following people. John Edward Byrne, 90, of Spokane, Washington, passed away on September 11, after a long and fulfilling life. John was born February 11, 1934, in Johnstown, Co. Wicklow, Ireland, to John and Rose Byrne. He was the second of 10 children. John graduated from the National University of Ireland in 1958, and shortly after emigrated to accept a position teaching physics at Gonzaga University in Spokane. John married the love of his life, Connie, in 1965. They spent their first married years in The Bronx, New York, where John earned his Master's and Doctorate degrees at Fordham University. In 1968, his family was completed with the birth of his daughter, Nona. After completing his Fordham education, he returned to Spokane and resumed his almost 40-year career at Gonzaga. During his tenure he held various positions including Chair of the Physics Department and Dean of the Graduate School. In 2005, he was bestowed with the honorary degree of Doctor of Laws. John was a faithful Catholic and longtime member of Our Lady of Fatima parish. In 1978, he was ordained as one of the first Permanent Deacons for the Catholic Diocese of Spokane, where he faithfully served until his retirement in 2018. As Deacon, he held a number of leadership roles including Director of Deacons for the Catholic Diocese of Spokane and on the Deacon Formation Committee. John loved to travel and enjoyed many adventures throughout the United States, Europe, and Canada, however, his fondest trips were the ones back to his homeland. He was a devoted family man; a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend. John was predeceased by his parents, John and Rose; his wife, Connie; his brothers, Seamus, Brian, Derry, Pat, and Kevin; and his sisters, Ita, Roisin, and Betty. He is survived by his daughter, Nona Byrne; grandchildren, Nicholas Black, Caitlin Black (Ray White), Ryan Black, Madison Stoltz (Logan), and Braeden Brown; great-grandchildren, Ellie, Caileigh, and Silas White; sister, Maria Kerr; and countless in-laws, nephews, and nieces.

Elijah Cameron Mendoza, 15, of Mead, passed away on September 2, 2024. He was born on August 10, 2009, in St. Helena, CA. He enjoyed the outdoors, dirt biking, snowboarding, backpacking, traveling, hunting, and fishing. He loved God. His family and friends will always remember him as an energetic, helpful, and kind, young man, who was a ray of sunshine with a dash of orneriness. October 3, 1940 - August 30, 2024 Spokane Valley — MESSINGER, Gary R. (Age 83) passed away peacefully surrounded by family on August 30, 2024. Gary "Ruggy" grew up in Winona, WA, where his parents were central to the heartbeat of the small Palouse town. As a youngster, Ruggy devoted his free time learning to hunt, fish, and process game. These were skills and passions he passed along to his own children. He graduated from Endicott High School in 1958, where he was actively involved in FFA, ASB, and was an accomplished athlete. Following graduation, he spent some time at Washington State University, and then enlisted with the US Army, where he proudly served four years including a memorable deployment in Germany. After his return, he married Carmen Cobo and began a family that grew to include three children, Michael, Monica, and Michelle. They settled down on acreage near Bigelow Gulch, where raising livestock with his family brought him great joy. Ruggy also served 35 years with Union Pacific Railroad as a trusted brakeman and conductor. Following his retirement, he traveled and spent time with his family. Ruggy was passionate about cars and in his early days he pursued stock car racing and later restored a 56 Chevy that he proudly took to rallies and competitions. He also fiercely supported NASCAR, the WSU Cougars, Seahawks, Mariners, and Zags in good times and bad. However, his most avid support was saved for his children and grandchildren and their pursuits. Ruggy was a regular at Dave's Bar Grill up to his final days. The nonstop banter with his cronies was the backdrop for laughs, tears, jeers, and cheers that allowed for memories of a life well lived that we should all hope for. Ruggy was preceded in death by his parents, Robert "Bud" and Iola "June" Messinger, and his brother, David Messinger. He is survived by his three children, Michael Messinger, Monica Henry (Darin), and Michelle Sheley (John); his sisters, Vicki Knapp (Neil) and Bonnie Cooper; seven grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and numerous nieces, nephews, and grandnieces and nephews. There will be no public funeral service at his request. Gary will be inurned in a memorial bench at his parent's gravesite in Pines Cemetery in the Spokane Valley.

Liberty Lake - It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Betty Jane (Neyland) Trembly on September 8th, 2024, after a short illness. Betty entered this world on January 28th, 1936, the third of three daughters to Homer and Della Neyland in Seattle, Washington. In 1940, the family moved east across the state to Liberty Lake where Homer had bought beach frontage which later became Sandy Beach Resort. Betty and her two sisters spent much of their childhood summers playing at the Liberty Lake Park, riding the carousel, playing the games, looking for empty bottles to turn in for money and joining the picnic food lines as though they belonged. Betty spent the remaining 84 years of her life in the community of Liberty Lake. Betty graduated from Central Valley High School in 1954. She then attended WSC (WSU) graduating in 1958 with a degree in elementary education. While at WSC, Betty accepted a blind date with a young Cougar baseball player from Kelso, Washington. She married Joe Trembly on September 7th, 1958. Little did she know that blind date would turn into 62 years of marriage filled with parenthood, friendships, sports, hard work in the family business and family. Their son, Joe Allen was born in Portland, Oregon, in 1959. Joe and Betty moved back to Liberty Lake to become partners in the family resort business with sister, Mary Floy and brother-in-law, Howard Dolphin, purchasing Sandy Beach Resort from their father and mother, Homer and Della Neyland. They ran the business together as a resort for 31 years eventually turning it into a mobile home park which still stands today. Possibly, McDonalds wasn't the first hamburger joint to fry a million burgers. On hot days the old flat top grill cooked burger after burger in the sweltering heat. Betty's glasses would become covered with hamburger grease as she slaved over the sizzling grill. A tough job when the rest of humanity was enjoying the cool water of Liberty Lake. One of the many memorable Betty incidents of the days working at the beach was watching her chase down a freeloader sneaking into the resort through the swimming area. Betty, in apron and dress would leave her station behind the grill and wade into the water to remind them they had to pay to swim there or get out. On Mother's Day Betty would pride herself on being the first person of the season to test the chilly waters of Liberty Lake fully clothed and with the snow still on Mica Peak! Joe started his teaching and coaching career at Freeman High School and later at University High School and Betty started her teaching career in the East Valley School District at Trentwood Elementary retiring in 1991, after 31 years of service. Her teaching friends remained lifelong friends and a big part of her life. Betty and Joe spent countless hours of proud parenthood following and supporting Joe Allen's CV football and baseball games along with his successful golfing career. Joe Allen later became a certified golf pro which was a great source of pride to his parents. Betty and Joe were lifelong WSU Cougar fans holding season tickets for years in both football and basketball. The Cougar flag still flies from their front porch. Betty and Joe led a very active social life surrounded by great lifelong friends from their teaching careers. They traveled to two Olympic Games, Munich in 1972 and Montreal in 1976 and attended many National Athletic Director conferences with close friends Bill and Carol Ellis. They traveled for many years to White Fish, Heavenly Valley and Tahoe to ski with Joe's teaching staff from University. After Joe's death in 2019, Betty spent many fun filled hours watching her grand and great-grand nieces and nephews swim in her back yard pool and attending a multitude of their sporting and school activities. Betty continued her relationship with old friends but gathered a new group of friends from the Liberty Lake Athletic Club. She led the water aerobics class for seniors at 6:00 AM, three days a week. She loved the people in the pool, and they loved her. Another of Betty's favorite past times was spending time at the Northern Qwest Casino where she became a favorite of the staff there and honed the skills passed down by her father Homer. She was a lucky gambler who won more than she lost. Her most memorable line after returning home from the casino was "At least I didn't lose the farm"! One of Betty's enduring qualities was her ability to make people laugh. Betty never took herself too seriously and her contagious laugh in regard to something she did was hilarious. One of particular hilarity was a golfing trip to Scotland with friends where Betty was the designated driver of the ladies while the men golfed. One could imagine the laughter and chaos which ensued as Betty got behind the wheel driving on the wrong side of the road. Betty's son, Joe Allen and granddaughter, Taylor Noelle Trembly were a lifelong source of pride and love often traveling to the west side to be with them. Betty was a mother, teacher, sister, wife, grandmother, aunt and friend beloved by all who were fortunate enough to know her. Betty was preceded in death by her parents, Homer and Della Neyland, sister, Mary Floy Dolphin, brother-in-law, Howard Dolphin, sister, Carol Jean Richardson, brother-in-law, Robert Richardson, and niece, Annette Strong. She is survived by her son, Joe Allen Trembly, Liberty Lake; granddaughter, Taylor Noelle Trembly, Federal Way, WA; nieces, Leslee (Jim) McLachlan, Denise (Tim) Coyle, Monica (John) Pappe, Marcia Stetner (Doug deceased); and many cousins and grand and great-nieces and nephews who loved and adored their Aunty Betty. A celebration of life for Betty will be held on October 13th, at Trailhead Golf Course, 22302 E. Country Vista, Liberty Lake, from 2-4 pm. Rose Mary (Gilmore) Lehrbas, age 81, of Spokane, WA, passed on September 3, 2024. Rose was born May 17, 1943, to Haven and Esther Gilmore. She graduated high school from Marcus, WA, and later from S.C.C. with a bachelor’s degree in computer science. Rose worked a variety of jobs throughout her life – phone operator, waitress, making bullets, and sewing for All Season Apparel. She was a Union shop steward for the IAM at Boeing. Rose married Larry Lee Lehrbas on March 28, 1964, and they had two children together, Lyle and Leah. Rose was a long-haul trucker’s wife, and she did it all while Larry was on the road. She was a loving homemaker and mother. She did anything she set her mind to do and did it gloriously. She enjoyed cake decorating, sewing, crocheting, bowling and gardening. Her greatest joys were her family. Rose is survived by her children, Lyle (Rosa) Lehrbas of Chewelah, Leah Lehrbas of Fruitland; her siblings, Clair (Linda) Gilmore, Howard Gilmore (Ginger), Juanita Gilmore, Wilma Hartle, Sharon Mitchell; numerous nieces and nephews; and her grandchildren, Jayson and Dean. She was preceded in death by her spouse, Larry; her parents, Haven and Esther Gilmore; three infant siblings, Cecil, Elmer and Nancy; and her adult siblings, Lorne Gilmore, Ray (Sally) Gilmore, Harley Gilmore, and Verne (Margaret) Gilmore. A Celebration of Rose’s Life is scheduled on September 20, 2024, at Hazen & Jaeger Valley Funeral Home, 1306 N. May 9, 1932 - August 23, 2024 Spokane - Marvin Frederick Soehren passed away peacefully on August 23, 2024, of a broken heart after losing his wife, Helen, in April of 2022. He is survived by his sons, Larry (Mary), Craig (Pauline); four grandchildren, Lisa, Megan (Matt), Madison and Chase (Ally); two great-grandchildren, Rebecca and Paul; and several cousins, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Donald, and sister, Darlene. Marvin was born to John and Marian (Dorgan) Soehren on May 9, 1932, in Mott, North Dakota. At the age of 12, the family packed a flatbed truck (with he and his brother, Don, traveling in the back), heading to Portland, Oregon. They stopped in Spokane to visit friends and never left. He graduated from Rogers High School in 1950. After a 2-year enlistment with the National Guard, where he was stationed in France during the Korean Conflict, he went to school at Kinman Business University. There he met Helen Lindquist in February of 1953. They were engaged by September and were married on May 29, 1954, in Brewster, WA, Helen's hometown. These were all the moments of destiny that dad loved to talk about. After graduating from Kinman with an accounting degree, Marvin started work in the Trust Department at the Old National Bank (ONB), where he worked for 36 years. While managing the Spokane Foundation account at ONB, he worked with other community members as well as the Junior League to form the Spokane Community Foundation (now Innovia Foundation) in 1974 and was one of the signatories on the founding documents. After retiring from the bank, he went to work as the Administrator of Spokane Baptist Association Homes, which included Lilac Plaza (where, in theory, he was Helen's boss) and Holman Gardens. After his final retirement in 1995, he and Helen enjoyed life with their good friends, Lou and Norma Petrelli. Together, their adventures took them on cruises, to Las Vegas, and on the road in their RVs with an ever-growing group of friends and family. Throughout retirement, Marv and Helen spent most mornings with the walking crew at Northtown Mall, where they made many close friends. Services will be held on October 5, 2024, at 1:00 pm, at Unity Spiritual Center, 29th and Bernard. Memorial donations can be made to the Soehren Family Fund at Innovia Foundation, Hospice of Spokane, or the charity of your choice. The family would like to thank the loving caregivers of Hospice of Spokane, Generations Home Care, and At Skyline Adult Family Home for making Dad's last few months peaceful and comfortable. We can truly say his was a life well-lived, and a life well-loved.

October 1, 1934 - August 20, 2024 Spokane - Born to William and Virginia McMichael in Portland, OR, where she spent her adolescent life. Jean graduated from Lincoln High School in 1952, and also completed the highest ranking in Campfire Girls achieving the Wohelo award which she was very proud of. After High School she attended Oregon State and Portland State with studies in Journalism. In 1956, she married Gerald Winn and soon started a family which included a son and a daughter. She was a stay-at-home mom and once her children were raised, she started her career with JC Penney's. She worked there for many years and very much loved her job. One year she won an award for top sales associate in the men's suit department for selling the most suits out of all the JC Penney's stores, which she was also very proud of. She loved her family and in her free time she enjoyed boating with her family, going for a ride on her son's Harley, music, dancing and shopping (which she was very good at!). She is survived by her sister, Billie (Maurice) Comeau, son, Andrew (Cynthia) Winn, daughter, Kelly (Mike) Faux, 4 grandchildren, and 6 great-grandchildren. There will be a private gathering for family and friends in October. She will be greatly missed by all.

- September 6, 2024 Spokane - Leaving an adventurous life full of memories, Raymond "Ray" Lee passed away peacefully in his home at 82 years of age. Ray was born in August of 1942 to Raymond and Isabel in Camden, SC. Ray had two younger siblings; sister, Virginia Marie, who preceded him in death, and brother, Michael. After graduating from St. Peter's Catholic School in Westernport, MD in 1960, Ray enlisted in the United States Air Force. During his time in service, he deployed to Vietnam as a Forward Air Controller along with assignments in West Germany, South Korea, and various locations in the US. Together with serving in the Air National Guard, including a final assignment with the 105th Tactical Control Squadron, Ray retired after 27 years with the rank of Senior Master Sergeant. Outside of the military, Ray was a one-time proprietor of the old Buckhorn Inn in Airway Heights, WA and had his own detective agency. In 1992, he was hired by Itron, Inc. where he eventually served as its Chief Security Officer before retiring in 2009. Ray enjoyed working in his yard, watching Gonzaga basketball, staying in his RV at various lakes around Spokane, and generally being outdoors. But most of all he loved being with his family. Ray is survived by his loving wife, Debbie of Spokane, WA; son, Michael of Miami, FL; daughter, Paula LaBelle of Coeur d'Alene, ID; son, Charles Durant of Knoxville, TN; daughters, Anne Jones of Bismarck, ND, Raylene Larralde of Billings, MT, and Jennie Ostler of Pocatello, ID. He is also survived as a beloved Bapa by 14 grandchildren, preceded in death by his granddaughter, Samantha Durant; and over 25 great-grandchildren. Along with family, Ray will also be missed by his many friends who always appreciated his humor and willingness to help, best exemplified by his beloved playing of Santa at various events for numerous holiday seasons. A memorial service for Ray will be held on the 30th of September, starting at 1:30p.m., at the Washington State Veterans Cemetery in Medical Lake. Ray left an irreplaceable void and will be dearly missed.

October 12, 1928 - September 7, 2024 Spokane - Alice Mayo, beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully on September 7th, at the age of 95. Born in Sioux City, Iowa, on October 12, 1928, to Helen and LeRoy Still, she was one of two daughters; preceded in death by her sister, Karen Burkhead. Alice spent her early years in Sioux City before moving to Spokane at the age of 15, where she attended Rogers High School. It was in Spokane where she met the love of her life, Leonard W. Mayo. The two were married on August 15, 1947, and together they built a beautiful life, raising three children: Barbara (Jon) Schuh, Leonard (Judy) Mayo, and Helen (Bruce) Kegley. Alice cherished her family, including her five grandchildren: Jon, Lori, Alice, Fran, and Duane; her 15 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren, all of whom brought her immense pride and joy. Known for her warmth, kindness, and radiant personality, Alice never met a stranger—everyone who knew her simply adored her. Many lovingly referred to her as "Mom," a testament to the care and compassion she showed to all. Alice enjoyed spending time with her many dear friends and found joy in playing Bingo, singing karaoke, and taking trips to the casino. Her laughter and love will be remembered by all who were fortunate to have known her.

Randy Allen Bergheim, (71), of Spokane Valley, WA, passed away on March 5, 2024, from complications of cancer treatment/transplant. Beloved son, husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend. He was born in Madison, SD, September 18, 1952, to Donald and Verna Bergheim. Randy attended West Valley High School, where he was a standout athlete in Basketball, and Track and Field, graduating in 1971. He worked at Kaiser Aluminum for nearly 30 years and most recently as a Buyer for the Washington State Department of Corrections since 2006. Randy was a devoted husband to Jackie Bergheim; father to Curtiss Bergheim, Todd and Erik Newsom; father-in-law to Jennifer Bergheim; and grandfather to Cole. The unconditional love and support he provided every day will remain forever in their hearts. He was an extremely hard worker and committed to doing the job the right way; whatever he happened to be doing. It was commonplace to find him at Home Depot, helping friends and family with home improvement projects, finding time for golf, or off on an adventure with Jackie. Randy was a competitive bowler from childhood, competing in leagues and tournaments for over 60 years. He travelled throughout the country competing in 36 ABC/USBC Open Championship tournaments. In addition to bowling, he was an avid golfer at NW golf courses and played in the Dusk Duffer league for almost 30 years. He was preceded in death by his parents, Donald and Verna; brother, Richard Bergheim; and sister, Cheryl Jensen. Survived by wife, Jackie Bergheim; sister, Debrah Wallace; sons, Curtiss Bergheim, Todd and Erik Newsom; grandson, Cole; and many extended family. Michael A. Davis, age 69, of Nine Mile Falls, WA, passed away peacefully at home with family on August 26, 2024. He was born in Republic, WA, in 1955, to James E. Davis, Jr. and Donna Joan Davis. He graduated from Linden High School in California before serving in the Navy from 1974 to 1977. He sold his auto parts business in Stockton, CA, before moving to Washington in 1993 and starting a career in real estate. He was currently employed by Rosauers in Nine Mile Falls. He and his wife enjoyed summers at Curlew Lake boating and fishing with their children and grandchildren. Mike loved playing golf with his golfing buddies, getting together with friends to play his guitar, and crabbing off the Oregon coast. He is preceded in death by his mother and his first wife, Diane. He is survived by his loving wife of 31 years, Vickie; his father, James; stepmother, Donna Davis; sister, Shelly (Eric) Campigli; brother, James E. (Fritzi) Davis III; children, William and Jessica; grandchildren, Nicole and Michael Nelson; and life-long friend for over 65 years, Mike Rushing. Donna Lee Kenrick, 84, of Spokane, WA, sadly and unexpectedly departed this Earth on August 30, 2024, surrounded by her family. Donna was born on May 15, 1940, to Harry and Mary Jannot, one of five daughters, including, Sue Clark, Joan Rogers, Betty Ross, and Sondra Carnell. The Jannot family grew and thrived in the local Spokane community. Donna took great pleasure in the arts, perfecting her sewing, crocheting, quilting, and knitting skills and sharing the results of her craft with those she knew and loved. Most importantly, Donna took great pleasure in spending time with family and friends. Loving mention to her lifelong friend, Judy Schmeer, and caring neighbors, Pattie Vlastelic, Joyce Frederick, Carol Bichelmeyer and Gary Klawitter. Donna is survived by her sister, Sondra Carnell; children, Vicki Esposito (Mike) and Michael R. Love; grandchildren, Shelby Laine, Nicky Love, Jenny Love, Kumiko Love-Dempsey, Heidi Schaffer, Jennifer Love-Swan, Ashley Love, Brandon Love; and many loving nieces, nephews, and several adored great-grandchildren. Donna was preceded in death by her parents, Harry and Mary Jannot; husband, Steve Kenrick; sisters, Sue Clark, Joan Rogers and Betty Ross; children, Greg Love and Randy Love; and grandchildren, Jason Kiss and Dennis Mitchell. Per Donna’s personal request, no funeral or formal memorial services will be held.

James “Jim” McKelvey of Spokane passed away unexpectedly and peacefully at his home on Thursday, August 29, 2024, he was 82 years old. Jim was a graduate of Mead High School, Class of 1962, where he was an Eagle Scout. After graduation, Jim graduated SCC with a degree in Heavy Equipment Hydraulics. He spent the next 11 years working for Case Power and Equipment. In 1975, Jim became one of SCC’s instructors in Heavy Equipment department, where he worked for 30 years. Jim was a lifelong farmer and worked his last harvest in August of 2024. As a volunteer firefighter and commissioner for Fire District 10, Jim finally retired from the fire service after 31 years (2019). Jim is survived by his devoted wife of 60 years, Noncie Stewart, with whom he had three daughters, Annette (Kyle) Anderson, Alanna McKelvey, and Angela (Douglas) Bell; three grandchildren, Rylee, TJ, and Wesley and his sisters, Joanne McCauley, and Jean Johnson (Tim Weston). Mom died peacefully on Thursday, September 5, 2024. Her husband of 60 years, Jack Brandmueller, preceded her in death (2017). She leaves behind daughter, Kristi Wearne (Nick); son, Mark Brandmueller (Cheryl); daughter, Wendy Miller (John); grandchildren, Justin Wearne (Amy), M'liss Knight, Kayla Chavez (Lane), Lindsee Brandmueller, Adam Brandmueller (Lauren), Christopher Basham (Sara), and Nathan Basham; nine great-grandchildren; brothers-in-law, Jim Brandmueller (Kathi), Jerry Brandmueller (Nancy); and nephew, Eric Bagley. Thank you to Imelda Williams, mom's longtime friend. Mom was a very talented interior designer and owner of Jamers Interior Designs for over 25 years. She enjoyed painting, reading, and traveling far and wide (especially Paris and Maui). She was a long-time member of the Compass Club, various garden clubs and many book clubs. She enjoyed time spent with family and friends. Mom was a kindhearted, deeply caring person. She will be greatly missed. Love, Wendy, Kristi and Mark.

Went to be with her lord on August 8, 2024. Born April 18, 1930, to Carl and Lola Bade. Grew up in rural Milton-Freewater, OR. After graduating from high school, came to Spokane, WA, in 1948 to attend Kinman B.U. Employed by General Adjustment Bureau, Glens Falls Ins. Co. and Lacy & Conyard Adjusters prior to working as a Secretary for Mead School District from 1965-1992, during which time she was Secretary to the Superintendent and for the Gifted student program. Married Dan Schlangen in 1953, divorced in 1976, and remained good friends. Survived by son, Dan Schlangen (Rene) of Whidbey Island, WA; daughter, Lauri Barrett (Kenny) of Priest River, ID; five grandchildren, Dan Schlangen (Mollye) of Gloucester, VA, David Schlangen of Seattle, WA, Brittany (Josh) Ackerman and Ryen Edwards of Priest River, ID, Corbin Adkins of Mead, WA; and great-grandchildren, Chet and Lela Schlangen, Ava and Ella Ackerman, and Everly Edwards. Also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. Received several awards for volunteering; Corbin Senior Activity Center; CenterPointe and PED. She was a Tour Leader for Corbin Center since 1993, traveling Europe and the US often. She was on the board of Christian Womens’ club from 1972-1994. Member of Fourth Memorial Church since 1988 and very involved with area wide Christian Singles. In lieu of flowers, donations to Corbin Senior Center or Fourth Memorial Church would be appreciated. Mary Shannon Edge (Steckler) passed peacefully in her home September 4th, at the age of 74. Shannon was born to parents, Carol Jean Davis (deceased) and Lester Edge Jr. (deceased), and raised in Spokane with her younger brother, Peter (deceased). She attended Our Lady of Fatima, Hutton, Sacajawea Middle School, and graduated from Lewis and Clark High School. She went on to Seattle University and Eastern Washington University to earn her degree in Elementary Education and worked as a substitute teacher. She married (and later divorced) Rod Steckler, and had one child, Heather Steckler Parker, to whom she dedicated her life. She was her daughter’s biggest fan, supporter, and was always the parent volunteer at every event, concert, recital, and performance! Her summers were spent at her family’s cabin on Hayden Lake growing up and she continued the tradition with her daughter, Heather. She was adored by her daughter and son-in-law, Derrick Parker, and her two granddaughters, Grace and Isabel Parker, as well as her beloved dog, Pippin! (Shannon loved all animals and was a supporter of SCRAPS and the Spokane Humane Society.) Shannon became a member of First Presbyterian Church and was loved by her deacons and ministers who would visit her in her home when she became homebound. She will be remembered as the most adoring mother and grandmother, for her strength, fun and playful sense of humor, love of animals and children, and her joyful love of swimming at the lake!

1972 – 2024 Felecia T. Todd (Loos), 52 of Newport, OR, passed into the loving arms of Jesus on Saturday, August 17, 2024. Felecia was home and surrounded by her family as she took her final breaths. Felecia was born in Spokane, WA, to George and Trula Loos. Felecia graduated from Shadle Park High (Spokane) in 1990, and in 1995 graduated from Eastern Washington University with a degree in Health Education. Felecia moved to Newport to take a health education position with Lincoln County. Felecia worked as a children's pastor at the Newport Church of Nazarene, as a PE teacher at Sam Case, and lastly, as a counselor at Newport High School. Felecia's first date with Travis was a ski trip where she concluded that his rudimentary skiing skills meant that he was never again to lead the way on jumps. On September 18, 1999, Felecia married Travis and went on to have two children, Claire and Ethan. Felecia's expressed core values were to love and honor God, love family, and to love-on everyone around her. Felecia was a courageous, charismatic, fun loving, kind words, answer 'yes' person, all packaged into a little frame. She was always available to encourage, help out, or share an adventure. Felecia enjoyed running, walking her route, boating, hiking, traveling, attending Ethan's sporting events, attending Claire's equestrian/4-H events, and just hanging out with family and friends. Felecia was an avid hair twirler and was known to occasionally bust out delightful cheerleader dance moves. Felecia relied on God's provision for the strength to live joyfully while enduring great suffering. Well done, Felecia. Felecia was preceded in death by her father, George Loos. Terry Jean Pfyffer Romanyszyn joined her Saviour, and passed away peacefully on August 23, 2024, surrounded by her loving family in Spokane, Washington. She was 76 years old. Terry was born in Hamilton, Montana, on April 6, 1948. Terry was the beloved daughter, and oldest of five children, born to Marlys and Ernie Pfyffer. Terry attended Hamilton High School, graduating her class in 1966. After high school, Terry attended Kinman Business University in Spokane, Washington. Upon graduating from college, Terry started her bookkeeping career. She worked for several companies during her career, retiring in 2016. On May 3, 1969, Terry married Jerry Romanyszyn in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho. They celebrated their 55th anniversary in May. Terry had a wonderful sense of humor, character, strength, and values that she carried with her throughout her life. Terry loved being a mom, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She valued her time with her granddaughter, Marissa, taking in many plays, movies, dinners, and special moments with her. She was a proud grandmother of her grandson, Ryan, and watching him participate in motocross. She was especially proud of him for serving his country as a Marine. Her great-grandson, Brantley, was the "twinkle" of her eye. Terry loved her flower gardens. She loved working in her flower beds, keeping her peonies, and roses looking beautiful. Terry enjoyed bowling, and in October of 1980 the Spokane Chronicle announced her team, Guys and Gals, where she had high series of a 574. Starting in 2000, Terry joined her sisters in starting what they called their "Sisters Retreat", in Las Vegas, Nevada. The "Sisters" picked a new place to go every year, and Terry loved traveling to a new place each year. Terry cherished her family above all else. Terry would want to mention her special friends; Linda Tabatt, she was like a sister to Terry; her neighbor of 47 years; Linda Banks, her college roommate and friend for over 58 years; and her friend and coworker, Darrel Brown; one of two that hired Terry back in 1974 for R.C. Hughes Corporation. Darrel and Terry were friends for nearly 50 years. Terry was preceded in death by her parents, Marlys and Ernie Pfyffer; her grandparents, Olga and Ted Pfyffer; grandparents, Fred and Anna Pfeifer; her aunt, Ellen Leibel; aunt and uncle, Jean and Elsworth Pfeifer, and her aunt and uncle, Lenore and Warren Hutchings. Terry is survived by: her husband, Jerry; her loving son and wife, Jerry Eugene and Shelley Romanyszyn; her loving granddaughter, Marissa, and great-grandchild, Brantley; her loving grandson, Ryan; her sister, Penny (Sam) Ewalt; her sister, Vickie (Eric) Martinez; her brother, Larry (Teena) Pfyffer; her sister, Patsy Pfyffer Mills (David A. Thorsen); her brother–in-law, Serge Romanyszyn (Linda); and her sister-in-law, Maria Anna Romanyszyn. Terry is also survived by her cousins, and many nieces and nephews. There will be a Celebration of Life for Terry on September 20, 2024, at the Washington State Veterans Cemetery at 10:30 a.m. There will be a reception to follow.
