School layoffs hit home

The Spokesman-Review

The pain of the news of school district teacher layoffs came full force.

My son, who is totally blind, lost his Braille teacher due to state budget cuts. Come fall, he will have no one to teach him how to read. His teacher will be replaced with someone who has more seniority but no experience or knowledge of teaching the visually impaired.

How can Gov. Gregoire and the Legislature cut the budget to the point where children will not get the education they need and deserve? I guess No Child Left Behind does not include Washington state children.
