Jail site choice a crime

Why are we being offered an urban sprawl jail?

How can that be a cost saver? A jail near the present public safety complex would be more efficient. The costs of construction are going down. Can anyone imagine transportation costs not escalating?

And what about the lost time and additional money for more deputy sheriff chauffeurs to drive them to and from a rural jail every time the inmate has to appear in court?

Are we to believe that future cars will get 50 miles per gallon and gas will cost anywhere near where it is today? Why don’t we have the estimated costs of such a boondoggle idea put forth for all to see? Are these the same consultants estimating costs that have cost the county so dearly with recent financial blunders?

Are the two commissioners and their trained $100,000 PR guy trying to sell us on another big mistake for even more millions of dollars?

When are we going to realize that building more jails and prisons to prevent crime is like loosening your belt to prevent obesity?
