Levy OK invites abuse

The Spokesman-Review

To those who voted in favor of the EMS levy: When are you going to learn?

All it takes is for some official to wave the “public safety” or “it’s for the children” flag and you roll over, no questions asked. You think you saved EMS services, but all you did was continue the gravy flowing to the firefighters’ union and let city officials off the budgetary hook. You sent a message to City Hall and public sector unions that you’re still easily duped.

Can’t you see government agencies and public sector employee unions will not restrain themselves? Their appetites for more tax dollars and more power are insatiable. The only thing that will stop them is voting no on levies and tax increases.

Don’t believe their Chicken Little hype. Vital services won’t go away. Vote down a levy and you can bet they’ll be right back with another one.

Voting no on levies and tax increases will force them to live like the rest of us – within a limited, reasonable budget.

I’ll gladly vote for reduced levies as soon as they cut the lard and take some of the gold out of their wage/benefit packages, especially their pensions.
