I completely agree with Bradley Bleck about doing Second Avenue right. This is such a unique opportunity to make a pleasant, functional roadway out of the sterile, ugly avenue it is now.

Please reconsider the treatment of Second Avenue. It is not living up to our “Complete Streets” objective. This is in my neighborhood, and I find it unfriendly to walk, not appealing to drive. I am not a cyclist, but certainly the sustainable movement is meant to support a bike lane on a main street such as Second.

Are we to have short stretches of bike lanes that don’t go anywhere? Ten-foot lanes will work, we can try it this winter, and certainly that is not too much to ask.

But most important to me are the aesthetics of the avenue. We have new businesses moving in, and they deserve a pleasant avenue to front their businesses. We need a friendly place to walk and an inviting avenue to traverse downtown.

This is your chance to make it right, not expedient. Please don’t throw this opportunity away.
