Affront to a veteran

William Benson’s Nov. 11 letter, “Calls for peace simplistic,” took my breath away. I literally gasped that someone would respond to a veteran in such a disturbing way.

Rusty Nelson, a veteran and member of Veterans for Peace, shared his views in a letter dated Oct. 31. Benson proceeded to lecture someone about war who gave their service and sacrifice to our country. To tell a veteran “If you cannot stand behind our veterans, feel free to stand in front of them” is inconceivable.

No one understands the price of war better than someone who has lived it. Maybe Benson is the one not standing behind our veterans.
