Over the past couple of years, we have seen the people of Washington legalize marriage equality through a popular vote, and the people of Idaho be forcibly yanked out of the dark ages by the federal government and forced to legalize marriage equality.

Now, marriage equality is the law of the land in Idaho and the majority of U.S. states, but Idaho Gov. Butch Otter has not given up the fight. During a speech he gave after he had been re-elected as governor, he suggested that Idaho should not have to legalize marriage equality because the Founding Fathers did not agree with it. No wonder the people of Idaho elected this man; he obviously knows the Founding Fathers personally and can speak with authority for them. They probably go out to lunch together.

What Otter perhaps does not realize is that Idaho did not even exist during the time of the Founding Fathers, and they in fact had nothing to say about marriage equality. They had no opinion on it because the concept of same-sex marriage did not exist yet either.

It is sad that the people of Idaho would elect a man who is so out of touch with reality as governor.
