Carson event covered fairly

On Sept. 26, Dr. Ben Carson was the guest speaker at the INB Performing Arts Center for Life Services Ministry, which offers alternatives to abortion. On Sept. 27, The Spokesman-Review contained a front-page article reporting on Carson’s speech and the fundraising event.

In a rare outbreak of professional journalism, the article by Kip Hill was factual in reporting on the fundraising event and Carson’s comments. The article was nonjudgmental – i.e., neither supportive nor critical of Carson or the Life Services Ministry. Hill simply reported on the facts of the evening, plus provided some relevant background information on both Carson and Life Services Ministry.

I had expected a typically snarky, condescendingly arrogant column by one of your editorial writers on the event, and perhaps that is still to come. In the meantime, however, Hill’s article was a refreshing example of journalism as it should be.
