Dana Milbank wrote a fine piece (July 9) on an overdue honor finally awarded John Pedevillano. But I have one long-held objection. Why is it that World War II veterans are the only ones called the “Greatest Generation,” which, I’ve heard, Tom Brokaw popularized? Veterans in each of our military branches fought as hard and distinguished themselves as much in the Korean and Vietnam wars also, as have those who fought and are still fighting in the current Middle East wars. If the war itself was wrong, how does that minimize or eliminate the greatness of our service men and women who fought in it? Brokaw was wrong. James Vasquez Spokane
