I read the well-written and Nov. 20 thoughtful letter from William Mahaney. Unfortunately, he just missed a few points. Actually, rabies is curable, although the treatment is quite expensive and not always reliable. However, the best way is prevention (immunization). It’s cheap and works for humans, pets, and wild animals.

The same holds true with terrorists, or those who don’t like our way of life. It doesn’t work very well to try to cure them. We tried that twice in our own country, after the Civil War and with the Native Americans. Made both mad, and killed a lot of people. These are not the moral ideals that created our nation.

The best way is still prevention. Terrorism is caused by blowing up people’s homes and killing their families. I might go a little terrorist myself if you bomb Spokane and my daughter’s body is found in the wreckage of her building. It would also help if we didn’t steal their oil and land, but instead paid them reasonable prices for it (assuming they want to sell).
