I am really tired of all of the complaining about “political correctness,” as occurred after the recent firing of Curt Schilling by ESPN.

Yes, Schilling has his rights to free speech. He wasn’t arrested or fined by the government for his remarks. However, that doesn’t mean there aren’t consequences for his decision to exercise his rights. He insulted a very large group of people (as he has done multiple times in the past) in a very public manner.

The very public company he works for, ESPN, has every right to protect its interests. The people he insulted are their customers. Obnoxiously insulting a whole group of people may be your right under the First Amendment, but Schilling’s decision to do that still has consequences, despite all of his whining about “free speech.”
