Richard Kohles recently spoke to a group of voters about the need to talk across party lines. He will focus on kindness. It may sound naïve to some, but those of us who have known Richard, his wife, Jean, and his family for some time know that he means it and will develop kindness in his campaign. He spent 12 years in the seminary studying such concepts as kindness and treating others as you would like to be treated. He means it, and he lives by it.

Kohles and his family have lived in this area for 43 years. He has worked in education, real estate and employment counseling, occupations that serve the public. His guiding light in the Legislature will be, “How does this bill help the people of Idaho?” He will work with all members of the legislature to benefit all of Idaho.

It is time to start looking for legislative candidates who will work for the people and not just the party or its ideology. We need people who will work to accomplish the greatest good for the greatest number.

For 30 years I worked with the Idaho Legislature and the U.S. Congress. The best legislative sessions that I ever experienced were when the two political parties were close to equal in numbers. That forced the two groups to work together on important legislation that impacted the people of Idaho. It is time to bring some balance and statesmanship back to the legislature.
