Track congressional votes

I completely agree with John Thielbahr’s letter of Jan. 26. The Spokesman-Review needs to do a better job of informing local voters by publishing the votes of our Congressional representatives.

Trump and the Republican-dominated Congress are aggressively proposing and passing bills with huge impacts on our lives, our health and our liberties as Americans. As an example, Congresswoman Cathy McMorris Rodgers just voted in favor of H.R. 7, a Draconian anti-woman bill that effectively bans health insurance coverage for abortions and imposes tax penalties on small businesses with private health plans that cover abortions.

Other Republican proposed bills would rescind the Affordable Care Act, taking health insurance away from hundreds of thousands of Washington residents; cut Medicare and Social Security benefits (yes, our monthly checks); and provide huge tax cuts to corporations and the wealthiest Americans. These are just a few examples.

Voters need to be vigilant. We need to know how our representatives are voting on these significant issues, and we need to hold them accountable for the negative impact on our lives. We cannot do this without accurate and timely information. Please help your readers and commit to providing this important news service. Thank you.
