We are all refugees

As someone who has been tutored by Judeo-Christian thought, I find Donald Trump’s refugee and immigrant policies reprehensible. In one way, we are all refugees, strangers, sojourners in this wonderful land (Jeremiah 22:3, Psalms 39:12). We are guests in a land God created (Psalms 24:1). The Lord God expects us to rescue people who have been wronged.

If we look back to the time of Solomon, it was reported there were 153,600 aliens living in the land of Israel. They were able to find work for all of them and no one seemed to mind (2 Chronicles 2:17-18). God’s people should not put foreigners or immigrants in a separate category (Numbers 15:15). They should not mistreat or oppress a foreigner (Exodus 22:21).

In Matthew 25:44, we read “Lord, when did we see you hungry or thirsty or a stranger or needing clothes or sick or in prison, and did not help you? He will reply, ‘I tell you the truth, whatever you did not do for one of the least of these, you did not do for me.’”
