Saving Social Security

I believe that Mr. Samuelson (“The cowardice of the political class,” June 17, 2018) failed to take into account that there are more reasons than his story reports.

What about all the money the federal government borrowed from Social Security back when people were actually getting raises when they retired and then decided not to pay it back? And what about all the people who come to this country, never paid into our Social Security system yet get to draw it anyway? I paid into Social Security all my working career and don’t think anyone who worked all their lives and paid in should have to wait or take a pay cut.

Maybe the government should abolish civil service and try to live on what we get; then maybe things would be a little more fair.

I’m real sure the working class already pays a lot higher tax rate than the people who control our futures. Think how much more we would have to spend on everyone in this country instead of the political elite.
