Thanks to the Spokane Indians Baseball Club, Parks Department and Spokane Tribe of Indians for investing their time and money in Glover Field. The club gave a convincing presentation. Redband Park is a wonderful name, honoring tribal history, and continues the club’s important awareness and conservation efforts for which we’re grateful. However Mr. Glover, a flawed man, had little to do with developing Peaceful Valley.

The article (“New moniker proposed amid scrutiny of pioneer’s past,” March 18) selectively chose historical views and only favorable comments, but left out concerns such as inadequate parking, and concerns about public advertising that were left unanswered.

I feel the city continues to show little respect for community engagement from Peaceful Valley. Past examples: after resident input on a rock wall and agreed on a compromise, they did something different. Riverwalk plans were already submitted to Ecology, bid out and awarded, while the city continued to ask for “input” about our impacted community gardens. The boat launch public meeting gave attendees known inaccurate drawings.

The name change is not about Glover’s past, nor requested by residents. It’s been in the works for months with only last-minute “input” and announced to the public with our blessing just four days later. They probably already ordered the signs.
