Scapegoating leadership

When Donald Trump first considered the presidency he needed scapegoats to blame for President Bush’s recession. He targeted President Obama, a smart black man, and Hillary Clinton, a powerful woman, and spent the next five years spreading misinformation about them.

When President Trump came into the presidency he needed scapegoats to blame for our nation’s divisiveness. He and his party added Muslims and Hispanics to their scapegoat targets, and spent the next four years spreading misinformation about them.

When the coronavirus pandemic didn’t “magically disappear,” as Trump said it would, he needed scapegoats to blame for his incompetent dithering. He and his cult added the Chinese as scapegoat targets, and spent the last several months spreading misinformation about them.

Now, as we approach the November election, we see Trump and his host of sycophants re-energize their racist and misogynist scapegoating. Don’t expect them to take responsibility for destroying our economy. Instead, expect renewed attacks against Blacks, women, Chinese, Hispanics and Muslims.
