Vatican Decries Condom Machines

Compiled From Wire Services

The Vatican has assailed the city of Milan’s decision to authorize condom sales in vending machines, calling it “moral blindness.”

A motion approved Thursday night by the City Council said condoms, available in pharmacies and supermarkets, could also be sold in vending machines in bars, discos, the public university and other places where young people gather.

The motion, supported by most members of the dominant Northern League and several leftist parties, was presented as an AIDSprevention tool.

But the Vatican newspaper L’Osservatore Romano said some city officials seem most concerned with helping “facilitate the depravation of youth.”
