A woman who was struck by a bicycle on a downtown Spokane sidewalk earlier this month has regained consciousness.

Janice Everhart, 49, had been in a coma since the April 4 accident in the 900 block of West Riverside.

A Spokesman-Review advertising executive who normally works in Coeur d’Alene, Everhart was leaving the Great Western Building when an eastbound bicyclist struck her.

Late last week, Everhart began opening her eyes, said her daughter, Maisy Fernandez.

Fernandez said her mother still is weak, can’t speak because of a tracheotomy tube in her throat and has trouble with her memory. She isn’t sure what her mother’s prognosis will be.

“It’s still a waiting game,” she said.

Police have not yet charged the 17-year-old boy who struck Everhart.
