Report Of Dog Poisonings Studied

From Staff Reports

A state Department of Agriculture investigator is looking into a report of two dogs being fatally poisoned last month by a mixture of strychnine and hamburger.

Tina Morrison, who lives on the Dry Creek Road between Colfax and Garfield, said her Doberman pinscher and a retriever-Rottweiller mix were apparently poisoned in July.

Erik Johansen, an investigator with the department’s Pesticide Management Division, plans to send the dogs’ stomach contents, removed by a veterinarian, to a laboratory for analysis.

Meanwhile, he is planning to interview people who might have information about the deaths.

Johansen said he was contacted because Morrison suspected the dog’s deaths might be pesticide-related. The pesticide division investigates both accidental and intentional poisonings. , DataTimes
