Shane Yackel Central Valley Year: Senior Sport: Wrestling Weight: 168 Pounds

The B grade Shane Yackel received in English from his Central Valley wrestling coach was the only blemish on an otherwise perfect quarter report card.

Yackel received all A’s, however, at the Inland Empire Classic, CV’s annual tournament that the Bears won for the first time.

He was named the tournament’s most outstanding wrestler after parlaying an arm bar into a figure-4 move that led to three of his four pins for the 168-pound championship.

“It was like being two points short in the third round of a match,” Ethridge quipped back.Yackel has since improved the grade and is unbeaten to date. His first three pins at the I.E. Classic came 1 minute into

each match and the title fall came a minute into the second round.

“I was surprised how quickly he went through the bracket,” said coach Dale Ethridge. “But I know how tough a wrestler he is.”

Yackel was surprised he was named outstanding wrestler.

“There could have been a number of wrestlers besides me,” he said, “wrestlers who have been to state.”

But when executed correctly, the figure-4 is an effective pin move.

And it looks amazingly like an A.
