Industrial Plant Fire In Valley Injures Worker

From Staff And Wire Reports

A fire at a Spokane Valley industrial plant Thursday night caused about $15,000 damage and injured a worker, a Spokane County fire official said.

The worker was hospitalized at Valley Medical Center for treatment of smoke inhalation, said Lt. Wayne Howerton of Fire District 1. The worker’s injuries were not believed to be life-threatening.

The blaze at CXT Inc. was reported at about 9 p.m. and was extinguished about 15 minutes after fire crews arrived, Howerton said.

A piece of heavy equipment was damaged at the plant, but the concrete building sustained little damage, he said. CXT manufactures concrete railroad ties.

The fire was apparently started by a welder whose torch accidentally ignited hydraulic fluid, Howerton said.
