Bobby Allison, the patriarch of stock car racing’s Alabama Gang, might pull up stakes and move to North Carolina to be closer to his team.

Allison said it has become too expensive to live in suburban Birmingham, Ala., while trying to run a Winston Cup operation hundreds of miles away. Bobby Allison Motorsports is based in Charlotte, N.C., the heart of the NASCAR community.
