Fines In Kingdome Deaths
Three contractors were fined more than $39,000 for safety violations the state found following the death of two workers in a crane collapse at the Kingdome.
One contractor willfully violated state safety rules by failing to meet the crane manufacturer’s requirements, and all three failed to assure a clearance of 2-1/2 feet between the ceiling and the basket carrying the men, said Mark O. Brown, director of the state Department of Labor and Industries.
The fines followed an investigation into the death of William Louth and Jorge Turincio, sandblasters who were being lifted toward the ceiling of the stadium when the crane collapsed Aug. 17.
