Braves Evacuate Smoking Plane

Associated Press

The Atlanta Braves evacuated their Montreal-bound plane Monday night after the cabin filled with smoke while on the runway at Atlanta International Airport.

The plane was awaiting takeoff when players smelled fumes and then saw smoke aboard the Delta Airlines Boeing 727. There were 52 passengers and seven crew members on board. The passengers evacuated by inflatable emergency slides.

Delta spokesman Clay McConnell said hydraulic fluid leaked onto a hot duct, then filtered into the cabin through the air conditioning system.
