A former nurse who said she sent two patients into insulin-induced comas because she wanted to go to prison to get treatment for her headaches got her wish on Thursday.

Lissette Nukida, 36, was sentenced to 18 years in prison.

She told FBI agents she meant no harm to the patients, but that she wanted to get arrested because she’d seen a TV report that said prison hospitals provided excellent medical care for persistent headaches.

Nukida apologized to her victims in court, saying she was in “a fog” from headache medicine on Feb. 8, 1991 when she gave the insulin injections. Both patients recovered.

Nukida pleaded guilty to six federal consumer tampering counts in November.
