O’Meara Takes Lead

Compiled From Wire Services

Mark O’Meara took advantage of his early tee time to vault into a three-stroke lead at the halfway point of the Honda Classic golf tournament in Fort Lauderdale, Fla.

O’Meara got in most of his bogey-free, 6-under-par 65 before strong, gusty winds kicked up and destroyed the chances of anyone matching his 133 total for two trips over the Weston Hills course.

Lee Elder and Bob Dickson shared a one-stroke lead after the opening round of the $650,000 SBC Dominion Seniors tournament in San Antonio, Texas.

The 60-year-old Elder, and Dickson, 51, had 5-under-par 67s at the 6,834-yard Dominion Country Club course.

Dottie Mochrie found the range on the rock-hard greens at Randolph Park North in Tucson, Ariz., for a 1-shot lead over Amy Alcott at the midpoint of the $450,000 PING/Welch’s Championship.
