No Uphill For Downhillers

Compiled From Wire Services

AJ Kitt and Megan Gerety won the men’s and women’s downhills in the U.S. Alpine Championships, just as they had 4 years before.Neither Kitt, of Rochester, N.Y., nor Gerety, of Anchorage, Alaska, had been able to repeat those 1991 titles until the opening day of this year’s nationals.

Gerety’s victory came at the expense of pre-race favorite Hilary Lindh, who finished third.

Kitt edged Craig Thrasher of Steamboat Springs, Colo., by .12 seconds with a time of 1:32.17 seconds.
