Mcgann Ends Drought

Compiled From Wire Services

Everywhere Michelle McGann went, someone wanted to know why she had piled up more than $1 million in earnings without one victory on the LPGA Tour.

She ended that line of questioning with a one-stroke victory over defending champion Laura Davies in the $525,000 Sara Lee Classic. McGann finished with a 4-under-par 68 for a tournament-record total 202, topping Davies’ mark of 203.

Davies led by a stroke entering the final round. Her lead lasted until No. 2 and was the first of seven holes she played tied with McGann. McGann led by herself for only the final three holes of the three-day tournament.

McGann and Alice Ritzman were the tour’s only players to earn more than $1 million without a victory.

Tracy Hanson of Rathdrum, Idaho, finished with a 73, good for a three-day total of 215.
