Stung by the dollar’s decline against the yen, Japanese computer memory chip makers are raising prices, and consumers may feel the bite.

Some computer manufacturers are resisting the increases, but executives say they may be forced to raise prices later this year.

“If the increases in cost continue based upon a continued weakening in the dollar, I would assume that’s going to have to be passed on to the consumer,” said Mal Ransom, vice president of marketing for Packard Bell Electronics Inc., the price leader among the largest PC makers. “I have not seen that in our end of things yet.”
