Korea Twelve American soldiers were detained by police and accused of beating a South Korean man in a drunken subway brawl, police said today.

The members of a U.S. military police unit in the Yongshan area of central Seoul were accused of dragging Cho Chung-koo, 28, out of a subway car and beating him Friday evening.

According to police, Cho said he was attacked after protesting to the drunken American soldiers for sexually harassing a Korean woman. Police were investigating the allegation.

Police said five soldiers, including one woman, were directly involved in the assault on Cho. Police said the soldiers were drunk and were returning to their camp after a party for a friend.

About 60 protesters gathered in front of a police station, demanding punishment for the soldiers.
