Austria’s Michael Tritscher held off an unexpected second-run challenge from France’s Sebastien Amiez to win a men’s World Cup slalom.

Tritscher, runner-up to Italy’s Alberto Tomba in last season’s slalom standings, posted his third career victory, edging Amiez by only .03 seconds.

Tritscher led the first run by only .04 seconds over teammate Mario Reiter, with Tomba .10 seconds back.

Tomba wound up third at 1:35.49, Kjetil Andre Aamodt of Norway was fourth at 1:35.65 and teammate Lasse Kjus fifth at 1:36.05.

The only American to qualify for the second run was Matt Grosjean of Steamboat Springs, Colo.
