Sarah Silvernail had 10 kills and five blocks Saturday to lead fifth-ranked Washington State to a 15-4, 15-4, 15-9 win over host Oregon at Eugene as the Pacific-10 Conference season reached its halfway point.

Shannon Wyckoff added 12 digs and eight kills, and Keren Oigman four aces and six blocks for the Cougars (8-1, 16-1), who matched their win total from last year. Shelby Edwards had 11 kills and Allison White 11 digs for the Ducks (1-8, 7-11).

Sheri Vinion had 13 kills and 10 digs as visiting Montana (3-4, 9-10) came from behind in two games to beat Eastern Washington 15-9, 15-9, 15-11 in a Big Sky match at Cheney.

Kellie Glaus had eight kills and six digs for the Eagles (0-7, 3-15), who led the first game 9-4 and the second game 8-2.

Tzvetelina Yanchulova had 20 kills and 10 digs as Idaho (6-1, 17-4) beat visiting Montana State 15-0, 15-10, 15-8 in a Big Sky match.

The opening game was the first conference shutout since 1987 for UI, which has won 41 consecutive home matches. Brandy Anderson had 12 kills for the Bobcats (3-4, 14-5).

LaManda Mounts totaled 15 kills and 13 digs to lead San Diego (4-1, 11-6) to a 15-11, 15-8, 15-3 West Coast Conference win at Gonzaga (0-6, 2-20).

Christy Kubista had nine kills, nine digs and five blocks for the Zags, who lost their 13th straight.

Stephanie Short was named most valuable player as Community Colleges of Spokane won its Crossover Tournament at Spokane Falls without dropping a game.

The Sasquatch, who opened the day with wins over Clark and Green River, topped Mount Hood 15-7, 15-9 in the championship match. Cheryl Hovde and Jenni Rosselli also made the all-tournament team for CCS, which finished 5-0 during the two days.

Clackamas topped Green River 15-13, 15-8 for third place.

Renee Williams had four kills during the final five points as visiting Whitworth beat Northwest College 14-16, 15-13, 15-13, 13-15, 15-9 in a non-conference match at Kirkland, Wash.

The Pirates (3-16) have beaten the Eagles twice this year.

Cross country

Eastern’s men and Gonzaga’s women won Division I team titles at EWU’s Invitational at Finch Arboretum.

Runner-up Nick Rogers led EWU’s men, who scored 29 points to the 46 of second-place Montana. Rogers completed the 4.5-mile course in 24 minutes, 8 seconds. Patrick Muturi, running unattached, won in 23:01.

The 50 points of GU’s women edged Montana (52) and Hawaii (57). Sixth-place Andrea Harris of GU finished the 3 miles in 19:17. Tamara Salomon of Calgary won in 18:44.

WSU’s women, with 143 points, finished in sixth place at the Jeff Drenth Invitational at Eugene, Ore.

Champion Oregon scored 34, while runner-up Washington scored 54 and had the individual champion with Tara Carlson. The senior ran the 5,000 meters in 17:29.6.

WSU (168) also took sixth in the men’s meet.

Women’s soccer

Haley Nichols assisted on the first goal and scored the second as Whitworth beat visiting George Fox 3-0 in a Northwest Conference of Independent Colleges match.

Joy Cullen added two assists for the first-place Pirates (6-0-1, 8-4-2). Whitworth held the Bruins (1-6-1, 3-9-2) to three shots on goal.

Leah Price’s first-half goal on an indirect kick lifted Skagit Valley to a 1-0 win over CCS at Spokane Community College.

Megan Troy forced multiple turnovers for the CCS defense. The Sasquatch twice hit the post with shots that nearly trickled in.

Women’s tennis

Marcia Senn, Andrea Reisz, Tunde Nagy, Narelle Hall, Bindi Thomas and Helen Frankland went undefeated as WSU won six singles and four doubles titles at its Cougar Classic.
